LONG BEACH (CBS) — A Skywest crew radioed authorities Tuesday when two children refused to fasten their seat belts on a flight from Long Beach to Portland, Ore.

Officers with the Port of Portland Police Department were called to meet the Skywest-operated Alaska Airlines plane when it landed at Portland International Airport at 7:20 p.m., Alaska spokeswoman Marianne Lindsey told CBS2.

“During the flight, the children became disruptive and wouldn’t stay in their seats and wouldn’t fasten their seat belts, which is against federal regulations,” she said in a statement.

It was unknown if they were seated at the time of the landing.

And the parents were where during the time all of this was happening?

Seems family was ALL there....further in article says AK Air talked with parents about need to fasten seat belts.....someone should tell them they won’t need to book with Ak AIR again....I’m sure others would have taken the seats! That a parent would allow a child to run around an airplane during flight tells me....they are Democrats!

Probably New Age hippies who didn't believe in disciplining their "free spirits."

We had one as a house guest once-- single mom, bratty 5 year old who had climbed on the toilet, to the bathroom sink, gotten into the medicine cabinet and spilled a bottle of my pills all over. The mom got irate with me for questioning her little girl about whether she'd taken any or not.

No concern whatsoever that her little girl might have ingested something which could do her real harm. Even less that her host had their medicine cabinet pilfered and spilled. Just unmitigated fury that somebody dared to question her little brat.

As a fellow paying passenger - I couldn’t possibly agree more!

If the airlines thinks that unruly children with parents who lack the self-discipline to actually be parents, are the customers Alaska wants and needs to run an airlines; that’s fine.

I’ll fly someone else. Pity, because Alaska is usually my favorite airlines.

“Following this, an Alaska Airlines supervisor meet with the family (of four), talked with them about the need to comply with Federal Air Regulations that the children must be in their seats and remain buckled when asked,” Lindsey added. “Our supervisor then personally escorted the family to the gate for their connecting flight Alaska Airlines Flight 2056 from Portland to Seattle which departed at 8:30 p.m.”

Golly, the red carpet treatment.

Instead, police should have boarded the plane and hauled off the parents in handcuffs.

That would be after the flight crew, with assistance as needed, from assorted burly male passengers, restrained the brats until the plane was safely on the ground.

Early in my marriage we had some college friends for dinner with their two kids (2&4yo). Before they arrived we were told to put away anything breakable. I was still shocked when their kids were allowed to walk on my new coffee table (and generally wreak havoc) without any attempt to control them. I told my wife that is the last time they would be over. Later on they wrote a parenting book. LMAO.

I always loved the South Park episode when all of the kids were hopped up on Ritalin. The “remedy” was a guy giving the kids a good whack and then screaming, “Now sit down and shut up!” Seems rather effective to me.

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that Ritalin is supposed to calm them down and help them focus.

You’re correct. In the episode they were using the “sit down, shut up” method as a means to ween the kids off of Ritalin.

“Our supervisor then personally escorted the family to the gate for their connecting flight Alaska Airlines Flight 2056 from Portland to Seattle which departed at 8:30 p.m.”

Wrong move. Start taking witness statements from passengers while still in flight and the kids are running around. Upon landing, have them escorted out by the police before anyone else. Threaten to press charges. Then have the cops escort them out of the airport. No way would they be allowed back on a plane.
