The disease which is turning British cats into living robots
Mail Online ^ | April 16, 2012 | Fiona Macrae

Cats are being struck down by a mystery disease that turns them into 'living robots'.

Their legs become rigid, giving them an odd, stiff gait, their personality changes and their tail stiffens and sticks out.

There is no known treatment or cure. The symptoms become progressively worse and the animals are put down when their suffering becomes too much.

The condition has baffled vets, as tests for numerous viruses have come back negative. Their best guess is that the pets caught the disease while out hunting.

Eek. I love my cats. I would be desolate if this happened to any of mine. Fortunately, none of them hunt.

It’s likely a parasite.

Parasites are known to change the personality and behavioral changes.

I wonder if it's some kind of prion disease, like BSE?

Some poster here once posted the thought that Toxoplasmosis could be responsible for left-wing idiocy...

I kind of liked that idea.

As you may well know, toxoplasmosis is spread through cat feces and when rats or mice catch it, it makes them seek out cats as they find the smell of cat urine very attractive. This results in them getting killed and eaten by the cat which then picks up the disease and spreads it forever after via its feces.

Millions of people are infected with this pathogen and we do not know the effect, since the pathogen changes the brain activity of mice and rats to become irrational, perhaps it could have an irrational influence on human behavior...

It would be interesting for someone to do a psychological profile on people carrying taxoplasmosis.

prions? Something related to the spongiform encaphalopathies like "Mad Cow" or CJT?

IIRC, there was a fast-acting variant in the UK that some humans got.

Cats are evil and should be exterminated from human society.

This would explain why men hate cats.
