John Edwards, One Of The Worst Dirtbags In Politics
WBZ-TV ^ | 4/24/12 | Jon Keller

BOSTON (CBS) – It’s Day 2 of the corruption trial of former Senator John Edwards down in North Carolina, and before too long, we’ll likely to be treated to fresh details about the amoral life of one of the worst dirtbags in modern American politics.

In essence, Edwards is accused of extracting close to a million bucks in campaign donations from a political crony and a very elderly millionaire supporter that were never really campaign donations at all, but slush funds to be used to cover up the sleazy affair he was having at the expense of his terminally-ill wife.

Apparently, there will be evidence introduced in court that Edwards conspired with several others, including his late wife, to hide the affair, which produced a child, so that he could continue to seek the presidency in 2008.

I distinctly recall Edwards going on at length about the damage another Republican presidency might do to the people and causes he purported to champion; imagine what would have happened if he had somehow won the Democratic nomination, then had his vulgar scheme exposed.

A national poll the other day found three percent of Americans still holding a favorable view of Edwards, and you have to assume they are completely ignorant of the details of his behavior. If not, it’s kind of scary.

But, the gruesome Edwards saga does put into perspective the caliber of most of his political contemporaries.

Whatever your views of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, we can surely agree that they would never indulge in the kind of narcissistic vulgarity that Edwards wallowed in.

John Kerry may have made a frightening error of judgment in choosing Edwards to be his 2004 running mate, a call that makes John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin seem thoughtful by comparison, but Kerry is a prince of a fellow compared with Edwards. Deval Patrick, Tom Menino – we’re pretty lucky around here with the character of most of our top elected officials.

If convicted, Edwards could go to prison for up to 30 years. That seems a harsh sentence – for the other prisoners.

2007: Rolling Stone called Edwards The Real Liberal and gushed about how swell he was.

>>If he weren't rich, handsome and so well married, you might feel a little sorry for John Edwards. Never before in the 231-year history of our republic have the inalienable traits that Edwards possesses -- his fair skin and a Y chromosome -- been anything but a prerequisite for presidential politics. Today, his race and gender stand a chance of derailing his campaign altogether. "There's a lot of democrats who would like to make history," says Markos Moulitsas, founder of the influential online forum Daily Kos. "The party is anxious to nominate a black or a woman," agrees Dick Morris, the former adviser to Bill Clinton. "You have to sign off on either of those two options before you even get to voting for Edwards."

I don’t know how John Keller can conclude that John Edwards is one of the worst dirtbags in politics. I can find at least ten as dirty just by scanning the roster of Massachusetts politicians in the state legislature.

True...as well as the 10, soon to be 9, U.S. Reps... one will be leaving this year (B.F.) and there’s a Kennedy waiting right in line to take his place.

You have to go down to the fourth paragraph before being told he’s a Democrat and, even then, not directly so.

I don’t know if that is above the norm or below the norm for a Democrat to be identified as a Democrat in the course of a scandalous story but it struck me as “not surprising”.

Calling Edwards a ‘dirtbag’ is a gross insult to dirtbags all over the planet.

we can surely agree

No we can't .... I suspect there is much more sinister behavior hidden in Obama's background.

had he and lurch won the election, they’d be defending him and castigating his accusers, who are they kidding?

Agree! If it hadn't been for "The National Enquirer" pushing it, the media would have protected him.

One of the worst dirt bags in politics? H*ll! He is typical. He exhibits, along with every known member of the species, every foul and degenerate vice: lust, greed, unwarranted vanity and lying tongue.

So typical. Despite the fact that this story has absolutely nothing to do with Sarah Palin, they still had to somehow, some way, find a way to slam her in the article.

He's not one of the worst.

He's just not as good at not getting caught.

Starting with the 536 politicians in Washington D of C, I would bet you could find at least 500 that are as big of dirtbags as Edwards. They just haven't been exposed.
And that number is probably low.

What Obama is doing to America is far worse than anything Edwards did to any individuals.

Not even any comparison.

Just take the example of selling out to the Russians behind the backs of the American people. That’s on a galactic scale of evil compared to which Breck Girl’s transgressions are on the scale of a junk yard dog.

The fact that we are hearing anything at all about Edwards’s misdeeds in the MSM tells me that the Democratic Party has no further use for him, and as such they are not only throwing him under the bus but backing it over him a couple times for good measure.

Edwards is definitely a candidate for the prison centerfold spot, wherever he ends. Up. “Dirtbag”...yeah, that’s a proper descriptor.

I remember when his mug graced the cover of the NC State alumni magazine.

I terminated my membership then and haven’t sent them a dime since.

The author is an idiot. The LSM would have closed ranks to protect the dirtbag, and he'd have approval numbers similar to Zero's.

The Democrats would have rallied around him, and employed the Bill Clinton defense - "it's private behavior"...."it's none of our business"...."it's between him and his wife".....it's only about sex"....."it has nothing to do with his ability to do his job."
