Newt Gingrich had a friendly conversation Wednesday with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney after news broke that he was shutting down his floundering campaign,...Its clear Romney is the nominee and the focus should be on defeating Obama..."

The Question is; can you adapt? That doe's not mean caving on your principles, but perhaps prioritizing your principles. So, just what is the governing principle? Freedom and Freedom of Conscience, the highest of all our God given inalienable rights. Obama is not just a liberal, he's a Marxist who believes you should not have the choices you have, that you cannot be trusted with your inalienable rights. Is not his battle with the Catholic Church regarding contraception evidence of what his ultimate goal is? He condemns our freedom of conscience if it does not line up with his statist views. Statists do not have a problem doing away with those that inhibit their ambition, and a population with a free moral conscience is the greatest threat to the state.
While Romney is a liberal, I believe he can be dissuaded of his liberal bent to some degree or another. Obama will not be dissuaded of his Marxist march... It couldn't be more black and white folks, the choice between Romney and Obama... I think Newt understands full well and is rational about his choices.
Romney the chameleon is not a conservative and an unimpressive candidate, but Hussein the dog eater is far worse. A vote for Willard is the only ballot one can cast that has any chance of being instrumental in removing Obama, therefore that is what I will do. Elections are as much about defeating the opposition as furthering your own cause, and Obama is the worst President in modern history (yes, even worse than Carter) and must be defeated to prevent our complete slide into a failed European socialist state.
It all depends on who he picks for VP. I did not vote for McLame last time- I voted for Palin.
I would love to see Romney pick GINGRICH
so we can hear Gingrich bad-mouth Obama until november

What the ABO crowd does not understand is that with a choice of Mitt or Obama as prez; we conservatives really don’t care which of those losers is the winner.
I repeat. We do not care if Mitt or Obama wins. Because if this is the case... Conservatives lose. The best we can hope for is real conservatives to be elected in the House and Senate.
I agree.
"Tell us what's behind the 3rd door, Johnny!"
"A new candidate! Yes, this shiny new candidate is a Conservative. Virgil Goode comes Constitutionally vetted and can be yours if...your ballot's right."
Obama is approaching LBJ-badness. Johnson was even worse than Carter.
Normal people seem to not run for office anymore.
We already know how Obama 2nd term will be. Anyone recall what he whispered to Medvedev on a hot mike?
Obama is lazy, narcissistic, socialist, big government promoter, clueless on how to grow economy, apologizer in chief to foreiners, wastes time playing golf (100 rounds so far) when country is facing serious problems, Solyndra, Arizona immigration, Fast & Furious, against Keystone & domestic energy production, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, America divider, in the pocket of unions and trial lawyers, and wastes tax payer money by endless vacations on Air Force One and weekly parties at the White House.
Romney was at bottom on my list, but at this point I have little choice except ABO.
Last I read Newt is $4.3 million in the hole but has $5 million in superpac money (which he can’t legally use to pay off campaign debts).
He should ask Mitt to pay off his campaign debts with the quid pro quo being that he will use the superpac money to fund media time for Mitt (maybe keep half a million or so for future Tiffany’s buys).
So what are your choices? Newt went Lib with Pelosi and Rev Al Sharpton by making those idiotic global warming commercials, and he even supported crap and trade, which is quite Liberal... where do you draw the line? He was widely forgiven of those blunders by showing he could give voice to conservative views, but what does he really believe? Did he believe the liberal bilge on global warming or was he merely hedging his bets in a new political reality where liberals seemed to be in complete control of the universe? Either way, what kind of a person does that make Newt? If you could support him knowing the implication of that question, can you support him in his decision to get behind Romney? Maybe you can’t, and that’s OK...
Lets vette this Virgil Goode. What! This so-called conservative was part of the Nancy Pelosi crowd until 2007. He must be good. What a conservative, he has done something even Mitt has never done, he voted for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker of the House, more than once.
To that point you should be campaigning for Romney, there is no way Dems can win house and Senate if Romeny carries Presidential election. That is our hope for controlling a left leaning Romney. As I have stated numerous times, you think the first four years of Obama were bad, what happens when he doesn’t have to worry about re-election how bad will get then!!!
Newt will make a wonderful “Reducing Government” czar in the Romney administration.
It’s funny how so many people are convinced Carter was a bad president.
Mr. Peanut was a cupcake compared to LBJ and Obama. He was ineffective, weak and did no real harm to the US in the 4 years he served. Hell, Carter has done more damage to the US SINCE he left office than he ever did while in office.
Is there any reason why a man buying his wife expensive jewelry would bother you? I don't care if Newt spends fifty million on Calista. It's no skin off my nose.
What normal person would want to be POTUS?
That’s the thing. Carter was largely ineffective. Johnson, however, WAS effective—effective in the wrong direction. LBJ gave us both the Vietnam War and the Great Society, a true double-whammy. Obama has been a disaster on all fronts; he’s just lacking a Vietnam to add to his resume. I don’t want to give him a chance to inflict any more damage over another four years.
Agree kevcol.
Why is it that so many supposed conservatives look to one pol to “save us” from the reign of terror of another one?
To think that we must wait anxiously to see if Mittens will act like the liberal that he is once he gets into office...is to live in fear and give away our power to the RNC and him.
It’s up to us to save ourselves. 2016 or bust.
We the People.
I bow before noone, except God.
No harm. Are you kidding. I will name just two.
1. His weakness in dealing with Iran had allowed the cancer of Islamism to be able to rear its ugly head. A disaster of mega proportions not only for us, but for the world.
2. The economy was in a shambles. We had both a low growth and inflation. 70% marginal rates and gas lines.
We're gonna have to keep pounding that into people's heads until November. Staying home is losing.
My candidate Gov. Rick Perry, a true American conservative, is in the ashes and second choice Newt Gingerich fought until it was no longer rationally possible.
So, rationally, even conservatives who veer to the right of Attilla the Hun, much decide if the country can survive 4 more years of the community organizer. I think not.
Romney is a flawed candidate, but it isn’t likely the Dems will unearth any sordid tales related to his personal family values. His work ethics may not jibe with those of Quakers, but at least he is familiar with how business operates.
Unlike the present occupant in D.C., Romney does not appear to hate America, Americans and individual freedom.
I hate that Romney okayed Romneycare, flip-flopped on social issues that we all care about. And we must never stop letting him know that do not condone any of it.
If being united to save the country from Obama is a must, then we must also concentrate fully on obtaining the White House, retaining the House and taking the Senate.
In the end, OBAMA MUST BE RETURNED TO CHICAGO IN NOVEMBER!
/johnny
“maybe keep half a million or so for future Tiffanys buys”
Now that’s funny right there!!
Do you mean other than...
giving up a valuable ally (Iran) to the islamofacists, giving up on hostages for over 400 days, approving an understaffed embarrasing half-assed rescue effort, encouraging Islamic fundamentalists to commit acts of terror, showing the Middle East that America is weak and can be manipulated by controlling oil... all ultimately leading to 911
or
dismantling the military during the Cold War, thus encouraging the Soviets to expand into Afghanistan, Africa, Nicaragua, Honduras, Granada, etc...and forcing Ronald Reagan to spend heavily on the military
or
setting rules and policy on domestic nuclear power that has resulted in American power plants storing dangerous spent fuel in dispersed metal buildings in the hopes of burying it under a Nevada mountain, rather than sending it to reprocessing facilities
or
20%+ inflation and gas lines that have lead to todays eco-car flops
Wow, that's quite an endorsement! There are some nutty libs out there who actually like all that stuff.
This is true. Which is why carping about Romney now is really pointless and only aids and abets Obama and the Dems. If you liked Michelle Bachmann, you will want her to get re-elected and not tossed out by an Obama wave re-election.
But it's also true that the best way to advance CONSERVATIVES is to find good conservatives running for office, and help them, and there are many running. So support them to the hilt. Like Mourdock taking on Lugar in Indiana, or Ted Cruz in Texas, or the many GOP Congressmen and women who won in 2010 and will be facing a real test in re-election. Many Tea Party candidates are vulnerable or need help. Allen West for example.
Helping those candidates will make a good difference. Let others campaign for Romney and help those down ballot candidates, if they are ones who you cant really get behind.
I strongly disagree. Carter lost Iran, the USSR annexed Afghanistan with 50,000 paratroopers, there were 20,000 Cubans fighting to seize Angola on the way to getting the strategic metals needed to make jet and rocket motors in Zaire, plus he surrendered NATO to the intimidation of SS-20’s as well as yanked the neutron bomb deployment after European leaders took the political hit of agreeing to deploy it, plus allowing the Nicaraguan Sandinistas to prepare to set up a Soviet submarine, bomber and naval air patrol (anti-submarine) base in Nicaragua...plus destabilize the rest of Central and Latin America...I could go on...
Mitt doesn't have an ACU rating. If he did, it would rank right up there with Ted Kennedy's. I don't know if there can be a negative rank but surely the two massholes Ted and Mitt qualify.
Carter WAS a bad President.
Our worst ... until Obama.
What made Obama truly awful and dangerous was the massive Democrat majorities that passed the worst legislation since ... LBJ. FDR, LBJ, BHO, have a common thread - they grew government via massive bills, eanabled by large Democrat majorities in Congress.
>he voted for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker of the House, more than once.<
Prove it. Post the evidence - post the actual vote instead of making unfounded accusations.
You do realize that Congressman Goode was one of a handful of Congressional democrats to vote for the impeachment of Bill Clinton, do you not?
I don’t see how we make electoral gains in the House or the Senate if Obama wins the election.
In how many elections have Republicans simultaneously made gains in Congress while losing the Presidential election?
This has been the most disappointing Republican primary season in history. I am thoroughly depressed over the whole thing and praying for a miracle to occur at the convention this summer.
No one is staying home. Not the Romney people, not the anti-Romney people. Just wanted to clarify.
My guess is that your "We" encompasses a much smaller percentage of "conservatives" than you either pretend or truly believe.
As bizarre as I'm sure it seems to you, Romney has somehow in fact ALWAYS been getting a percent of conservatives supporting him, even when there were real good conservatives available to choose from. As candidates fell by the wayside, more conservatives came to support Romney. Now if Gingrich is getting out, I would not be surprised if most conservatives will be supporting Romney.
You are of course free to support or not support whoever you want. I'm not telling you to support Romney. I'm saying that you do not accurately speak for most conservatives in your claim.
It would be an interesting poll, to find out what percentage of Freepers would say they "do not care" whether Romney or Obama wins.
BTW, for some who would disagree with you, it's because they would actually prefer Obama over Romney.

I always thought it was a bad idea to give up the Panama Canal, not to mention throwing the Shaw of Iran under the bus..
I always thought it was a bad idea to give up the Panama Canal, not to mention throwing the Shaw of Iran under the bus..

We cannot call ourselves patriots and sit out this election. Obama, if re-elected will change this nation forever. One more SCOTUS appointment like Kagan or Sotomayor and it’s all over. We don’t take primary battles to the general election. Elections are about choices not whether all of mine or anybody else’s principles will be compromised. Gingrich was an unmitigated disaster and a spoiler-in-chief who enabled Romney to squeak by wins in MI (3%) and in OH (under 1%). His baggage (and not just his personal stuff) was enormously heavy to bring down a fleet of 747s. Cap and trade, early support for the individual mandate; NY23; $1.6m Fannie Mae lobbying fee and the list goes on. His campaign, if it could be called that was quixotic and in a perpetual state of terminal chaos punctuated between penguin bites and bounced checks in Utah, and a never ending on-again, off-again campaign. His negatives were sky-high and his gender gap was oceans apart. Like it or not, this was the reality.
This is an epochal election. We must do all in our power to vote out Obama. You can bet that the SEIU, Black Panthers, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, NEA; GLBT; Emily’s List; La Raza; NAACP; and all of Hollywood and dead people and illegals will be enlisted to vote for Obama.
