LEWIS COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Five people have been arrested after sheriff's deputies say they stole bark from elm trees. Lewis County Sheriff's deputies the suspects stole 300 pounds of elm tree bark from private property on Little Cabin Creek.
The bark is in high demand, especially in the herbal market. The bark is selling for $3.00 a pound. The bark is used as a soothing agent for cougs, gastrointestinal ailments, and skin irritations.

The reason it is probably worth so much is because the elm trees got hit with dutch elm tree disease and many died. So now the survivors can be killed off for their bark?
Sounds like a buffalo hide hunt. Yeah, I love trees and shade. I’ve cried over the death of some of my favorite local trees (I am a visual person and I think they are beautiful). Seeing the Sequoias is on my bucket list. Where did I put that thing?
That headline made me laugh. At $3 a pound I just might have to find some elms around here.

I ate bark off a tree when I was real young. I have often wondered what kind of tree it was and why I ate the bark. As I remember, it was light in color, chewy with a sap. It wasn’t particular outstanding but I liked it. Don’t remember if it did any damage bathroom wise.
