Anyone notice Guinness tastes different? It seems to me when they stopped using the "widget" in their bottles, the flavor changed. It now has a slightly sour aftertaste.
A year ago or so I was asked to leave an irish pub when I got into a huge argument with the bartender. I told them their Guinness keg was crap after taking one sip of a draw and I told them I wanted my money back. They gave me my money and I was escorted out.
But now I tasted guinness(bottles) last friday for the first time in a year and realized its the same taste. Slightly sour aftertaste. They changed something. I can't drink it anymore.
Last few 6 packs I have bought did not seem as tasty as in years past, but I would need an A-B test to know for sure. Had not bought it in a few years.

I don’t know. I suppose something could’ve changed about me and my taste buds. I have become more fastidious with tooth cleaning. I actually floss 2 times a day. Maybe that is it.

After a couple of years arguing with the Powers-That-Were at our mess in England, they finally installed Watney’s Red Barrel. Not bad, but considering the majority of the membership wanted Wm. Younger’s Tartan Bitter, it was a loss. The manager of the mess, a retired NCO, had in-laws that worked with Webster’s Penine Bitters, so that’s what we were stuck with.
The Guinness Pub Draught has the widget. You may have received a Guinness Extra Stout unknowingly. I prefer the Extra Stout but that’s neither here nor there.

Haven’t seen it in keg-shaped cans. I’m sure it can be beat in terms of quality, but is much to be enjoyed at the price of $11.99 for a cold 30-pack while it lasts.

two most exquisite beers I’ve ever tasted are St Peter’s English ale, and Wexford’s irish cream ale. I have always preferred irish/english ale above all else on the planet. It was actually St Peter’s ale that pushed me into brewing my own beer. At 4 bucks plus a bottle I could not afford to drink it and started looking at replicating it on my own. I never succeeded.
That is some exceedingly fine beer(st peter’s english ale). Words have no meaning. It is like heroin to me. I can sit with one pint and literally savor every last drop oblivious to all around me. There is no such thing as getting enough. It does not get better.
The funny thing is, I’ve served it to others and they think it is skunky and ordinary.
no, I’m talking about the regular taller bottles of guiness with the “shrink” label. They used to have a widget in them like the cans. They no longer do.
I think it’s you. I’ve had both (draft and bottle) fairly recently. Tastes like it always did to me.
For a cheap beer, PBR in quart bottles and $1.69 isn’t bad. IMHO it tastes better than Bud or Miller. Also Simpler Times @Trader Joes for $2.99 a six pack isn’t bad either.
Not that there’s anything wrong with still tasting girlfriend in the morning (whether she’s gone or not), right?

You might be right...because I’v also noticed I don’t care for sam adams anymore either. Sam adams summer ale was always one of my favorite beers.
Schlitz has been re-introduced (in the Midwest, anyway - not sure how broad their distribution is yet) using the original pre-1968 recipe. It’s a great summer beer.
