Facebook "Like" question...
n/a | May 20, 2012 | huldah1776

Posted on 05/20/2012 4:57:22 PM PDT by huldah1776

Today, my son's name and the name of his close friend, were in a message posted to my facebook page saying that they "liked" Barack Obama along with a link to his facebook page.

Considering my son is a deployed Marine with limited access to the internet and the time there is in the wee morning hours, I contacted his friend who is also rarely on facebook and asked him if he had recently "liked" the article. He said he hadn't.

Do you think it possible this is a political hack?

Just wondering.

I use facebook as my own version of Free Republic, usually posting USMC info, pro-life articles, etc. Easy way to vent.

I wouldn’t put it past this administration to do something so underhanded and dishonest.

Capture an image if you can but I bet it was on the right side as an advertisement.

We use FB to keep track of a few friends and relatives who don’t do much email. About the only things we post are links to articles that are anti-Facebook/Zuckerberg.

If the friend has not liked the page, it seems a little fishy. I assume you would know if your Marine son likes or detests the current President, and if he isn’t a fan, neigher should show up that way.

The feature you are seeing is common in the ad program. I work with clients on Facebook advertising and use it frequently. The ad will identify your Facebook friends who like that page....it is an attempt to gain more attention to the ad and hopefully elicit action (click or like).

It is possible this is a site that is not Obama specific (such as Politics.com or something similar) that both your son and his friend like...and they are running an ad featuring Obama in the image or text. It sounds from your post that it was not this situation. You may want to ask that friend again to double check and make sure he is not a ‘fan’ of Obama on Facebook. If not, I am not sure what else it would be. If you see it again try to take a screenshot and post it to see (with names covered, of course).

sidebar ads will often say “All of your friends are using this” or “so and so, and 4 other friends like this”

It’s a lie. It’s just randomizing things. Why ? Because Facebook.

I recall talking to someone how we shouldn’t celebate 3 million likes on sarah palin’s facebook page because obama have like 20 million likes and someone told me that the likes on facebok aren’t legitimate “like”. Maybe theres some conspiracy that I’m not aware of in some circles on how obama campaign harvest the “likes”

I wouldn’t put it past Obama’s thugs to do that. They want everybody to think our military love him as much as the lefty media.

I’d have to see the exact post but it may be that someone posted something negative about the chosen one with the heading, “Obama”. In that case then someone who would click on “Like” would mean that he/she likes the negative comment. ??

When ya do click "like", among the new 'you may know' friend suggestions is a midwife from Kenya.

No, not an ad, it was on my timeline with a link to his page, as if, come to think of it, someone put it on MY page. I just hid it, like I do sometimes for the on the edge Marine humor. :)

LOL - Come to think of it, about a year ago, one day someone posted a couple of pro-gay, pro-death things to my page. I quit then but got back on to chat with my kid and now his unit uses it to post pics etc.

I wish they would only use e-marine. Now if e-marine set up a system where he could ring me like skype and text chat, that would be perfect! AND supposedly secure.

social networking sites are notorious for presumptuously encouraging "connections" and affinities where the algorithm suggests there might be.

it's like a vacuum -- they figure if they turn it on, it'll suck you in.
