He is lucky that his friend had a gun. It would be nice to know the caliber. Only a short while ago, it would have been required to be unloaded and locked up. I may be premature, but I do not think that the Canadian police will be prosecuting the shooter, but they have gone after people who defended themselves in the past, for improper and unsafe storage of firearms, because the guns were not unloaded and locked up.
