"Bath Salts" Really?

Posted on 05/29/2012 5:19:33 PM PDT by TexasSecede79366

Soo! This guy chewed off another guys face because of "Bath Salts"?

"Calgon Bouquet" could become a deadly weapon? I don't think so but I do think it is a political control event.

I’m not proud of it but I have tried a few of these bath salts in the past. I’ve read the horror stories of people losing control and acting violent. While they may be chemically similar to meth, the high is nothing like it.
It’s more like ecstasy, all you really do is sit there smoking cigarettes and watching you-tube videos.
It does eliminate the need to sleep and eat, so maybe the people who lose their minds on the stuff have been up doing it for days or mixing it with other narcotics.
But I do know some people react differently to drugs.

I think a lot of the publicity it has gotten is similar to the LSD propaganda in the 60’s/70’s,e.g staring at the sun till blind, babysitters putting babies in the oven

Is PCP the same as acid?

No. PCP is animal tranquilizer, and it has a different effect on humans, often making them agitated or violent with continued use.

Acid (LSD) is an halucinogenic, which alters the user's perception of reality, but can produce behaviour anywhere from euphoric to violent, depending on the person, their mood, circumstances, and events (lots of variables).

Is PCP the same as acid? Sorry I don’t use drugs so don’t know the difference.

I don't use drugs, either, but since I joined the Army, I've learned more about drugs than I ever wanted to know (the Army wants us to recognize signs of drug use). Anyway, PCP is phenylcyclopiperidine (or phencyclidine) and acid is lysergic acid diethanolamine; they are very different drugs with different mechanisms of action. Bath salts is a new drug. Another new drug, a form of synthetic marijuana, is called spice or K2. So far, spice is still legal. I don't expect it to remain that way for long.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have come into contact with a lot of drug users over the years. We usually are not able to determine what is causing their problem as first responders. As you say... some of the people who are violent may be mixing drugs and alcohol, not have a clue about the dosages or mixtures of substances they are taking, suffering from problems from long term usage, or maybe they had violent tendencies to begin with.

Taking drugs for recreation seems to be a dangerous past time. Look at the problems thought to be caused by long term use of the latest teen sensation “lean”, typically a mixture of Arizona Iced Tea Co. watermelon fruit juice cocktail, Skittles, and Robitussin DM or other cough syrups. There are a number of recipes involved. It sounds relatively harmless but people have overdosed and died, and long term use seems to be associated with paranoid and violent behavior.

The CDC has a pushpin map with Miami at its center. The CDC is ready are you? If you're ready for a zombie apocalypse, then you're ready for any emergency. emergency.cdc.gov

alcohol is a known quantity...it tastes good...its legal...its even in the Bible...its a downer and most people will simply fall asleep...

I know that drunk drivers kill themselves and others while DUI...but driving drunk is already a crime and people go to jail for it...

but drugs?....drugs can affect everybody differently....

we must stop acting like drugs are just like alcohol...nothing like it....

until as a population, we starting getting a little more God fearing and God loving, and live moral lives, and that means not self medicating ourselves into oblivion, then we're just a huge boulder rolling downhill...

I’ve seen references to what that Martin kid was drinking but now nieve me is getting the picture....so he probably was drugging himself with this “lean” stuff with arizona tea, skittles for flavoring, and a probable narcotic of some sort...am I right?

You’re welcome Fireman. A little bit of these bath salts will go a long way. I suspect that people assume that since they’re legal, they must be safe and end up snorting a whole gram up their nose. Constant re-dosing will keep someone up for days, which no doubt contributes to psychotic behavior. The compulsion to re-dose is incredible.

From what I gather,a lot of these salts are a synthetic form of khat and they are produced in Russia and China,God knows what else they mix in there.

I’m glad I never got to into the stuff.I’m sorry you have to waste your valuable time and skills on people that do this to themselves

I didn’t see the pushpin map with Miami as its center (where it at!) but the overall message of preparedness is candid, human and respectable:

Wonder why Zombies, Zombie Apocalypse, and Zombie Preparedness continue to live or walk dead on a CDC web site? As it turns out what first began as a tongue in cheek campaign to engage new audiences with preparedness messages has proven to be a very effective platform. We continue to reach and engage a wide variety of audiences on all hazards preparedness via Zombie Preparedness; and as our own director, Dr. Ali Khan, notes, “If you are generally well equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack.” So please log on, get a kit, make a plan, and be prepared!

I don’t really have any idea... but people are speculating based mostly on his odd behaivior at the 7-11. He appears to be acting in a way that looks like he is under the influence of some type of substance.

“I’m sorry you have to waste your valuable time and skills on people that do this to themselves.”

I am hoping to retire in a year or two because I am getting tired and I feel too old to do this type of work. But I have been well compensated by the taxpayers and am very grateful to have been able to have such an interesting job. The way the system is set up, it is often my job to help take care of people having problems with drugs, alcohol and/or psychotic behavior. It is one of the things I am paid for.

We see people having psych difficulties in a lot of different situations. Our county has the largest psychiatric hospital in the state of Washington, and many of the persons who are outpatients are placed in cheap motels and apartments in our district. My station also serves a local jail; when a prisoner starts acting psychotic they call us.

Most of the people we see who have psych problems have substance abuse problems as well. There is no way for us to know whether the substance abuse caused the psych issues, but long term users of certain types of substances do seem to have similar behaviors in many cases.

Sometimes when something new hits the streets we will see a bunch of people with nearly the same problem. Occasionally we can connect the dots. Teens are the worst because so many they think they know it all and feel they are invincible. They will take massive doses of stuff that would not normally be all that harmful. The internet has made it that much easier for them to get information from questionable sources, when a teen somewhere in the world figures out a new way to get high it gets passed around incredibly quickly.

I first read about salts on the internet and my curiosity got the better of me(against my better judgment,I fully well knew that just because the stuff was legal didn’t mean it was safe).
I’m lucky I don’t have an addictive personality, with the exception of FR of course. I hear ya about the internet,in my younger years a friend and me read that you could get high from nutmeg and raided my Mom’s spice cabinet, got sick as hell. I guess you need to use the fresh stuff.
I’ve stopped my drug experimentation and quit drinking as well, instead focusing on weight-training.

Enjoy your retirement and thanks for your service

Johnny

My wife is an ER Nurse, says that some of the "Bath Salt" patients never come down, their brains having been burnt out.

When folks say this is Bad stuff, it really is, and we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
