Too much lasagna? Garfield the cat weighs in at massive 40 POUNDS
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 3, 2012 | Nina Golgowski

Just days after revealing a 33lb cat waddling about the city of New York, a shelter in the same city has unearthed an even fatter one. Garfield, a 40lb orange and white cat was received at a Port Washington, New York shelter on Thursday, in some unquestionably unhealthy fat-cat competition. 'This is the fattest cat I have ever seen,' North Shore veterinarian Gerard Leheney told the New York Post. 'My first reaction was astonishment.'

Looks like a Maine Coon moggy. Big, beautiful cat.

Biggest house cat I’ve ever seen was in an SPCA adoption cage at the vet’s office where we take our critters. It was about 5 or 6 years ago. The cream colored Maine Coon was 13 months old, lean and 42 pounds. I’d have adopted it, but we already have 3 cats and my wife didn’t want to become known as the cat-lady of the neighborhood.

I was thinking about ordering the “Crazy Cat Lady Starter Kit”, which is a large cardboard box containing 7 cats in all sorts of colors. The kit was only $7.00 with free shipping, which makes the cost come to less than a dollar a cat. What a deal!

The cat looks as though he’s enjoying all the attention. He looks a lot like Comet, a cat who belonged to a friend of mine and weighed abut 20 pounds.

Ah, New York City, home of some (according to the Picante commercial) nasty, Salsa AND, the phony, pretend, RINO, Mayor, Nanny Bloom-ing-Idiot, so no prob!

Garfield WILL be required to go on a strict diet according to the edicts imposed by one of the most, mornonic, central-planning, big-gubmint, Elitists, in the Country.

Good thing NYC has strict gun laws or someone might mistake him for a Bob Cat and shoot him, but alas, as no one is allowed to "Carry" in the Big Apple (cept crooks and they are too busy robbing/raping/murdering innocent civilians who are not allowed to protect themselves) to be bothered with some feline.

He looks like he’s a large cat rather than a fat cat. There is a difference between large skeletoned and fat. The neighbor cat here would go down to the river and catch fish to eat. He was a big cat but very fit.

I find fat cats dangerously close to death from heart disease, kidney disease, and multiple joint diseases. There is nothing cute about a cat who has been allowed or encouraged to overeat. Ditto for humans.

I don't. They break my heart. Letting a cat get into such a condition is animal abuse, IMO. Aside from the obvious health issues and likely early death, cats are athletes, and these poor things can barely waddle.

Both big and obese. I hope someone cares enough to safely scale him back down to health.
