Let's put eligibility and the usual arguments aside for this thread. What makes Marco Rubio qualified to be president? Looking at his biography, he has never run anything or worked a day of his life in the private sector. Other than being Cuban and having good hair, how is this man anymore qualified than Obama was in 2008? Let's not make this mistake again. Hopefully Romney, who is qualified, though I disagree with his politics, makes the right decision and picks someone who knows what he/she is doing to take over if he drops dead.
I don’t know enough about Rubio to say he’s as much of a nothing as Obama was in 2008. I do like him, but I can’t support him for president of VP. I can’t “put eligibility aside”.
As much as I like some of the things he has said, I don’t think he is any more qualified AT THIS TIME than Obama was. Let him get some more big boy experience first.
Rick Perry and Newt are/were the most qualified. I’d be happy with either as they both have common sense. But I understand the Florida vote.
Agreed. When I see Rubio by Romney’s side, I start to think Batman and Robin. Too young.

If Mittens had any sense he would get Huckabee on the ticket with him. Then let’s see how the liberals can spin that one saying a 10 year governor does not have the experience to be president.
Yeah he was touting the forced “generosity” of Americans today.

and suggest Ron Paul would bring much needed grass roots enthusiasm and the promise of “not politics as usual” to the campaign as VP.
I don’t like Romney, much less Rubio.
IMO Rubio is only being spoken of as a candidate for VP in an effort to suck up to the Hispanic vote which the Democrats already own. In other words it’s a waste of time.
My pick was Gingrich, It wasn’t arrived at easily as I know all of the hype about Gingich’s faults.Gingrich was the most promising candidate to fix all of the mistakes Obama made. IMO Romney will make the same mistakes domestically that Obama made, perhaps with the exception of the stimulus.
My pick for VP would be Ryan at this point in time.

Because he hasn't stated this fact clearly in response to his being considered to be VP, he has demonstrated a lack of integrity that disqualifies him for any position of power over us.
His voters would be wise to boot him from that position of power over them.
While I generally agree I’d like to see Rubio gain more experience and become a Senate conservative leader in the process before seeking higher office, Rubio’s resume is miles better than Obama. Rubio quickly rose to be Speaker of the House here in Florida, and at a really young age. While that is not executive experience, it is a leadership post...much the same as Newt running for President last year with his experince.
Whereas, Obama has always just been a back bencher in the Illinois and US Senate, Rubio rose above the rest into a top spot. That brings experience in negotiating, selling policy, etc.
I agree. For most voters, a vote for Rubio for VP is not a vote for his qualifications, but a statement to themselves and others that they’re a “good” person, not prejudice against Hispanics. Like buying a Prius. Or voting for Obama.
BTW, does “Rubio” translate to “Rube” in English?

Can’t. It’s his fundamental problem. All the other stuff is immaterial.
Well, for starters, Rubio has actually served as a U.S. Senator and didn't start running for president within six months of taking his seat.
Not that I think Rubio is qualified, by any normal standard, but compared to the Obama standard, he is well-qualified.
Huckabee certainly has the experience, but like Rubio, he is way too soft on illegal immigration and offers neither racial (another white guy), ideological (another RINO) nor the geographical balance to bring electoral advantage to a swing state.
My personal favorite is Col. Allen West who would be a plus on all three balances plus bring much needed military experience to the ticket.
He is not qualified in any way, and I will NEVER put our Constitution ASIDE....it is all we have left.
Actually, he has worked as an attorney in the private sector, including during his time in the FL legislature. State Representative is a part time position, as the legislature only meets 60 days per year.
Interest in Rubio is a lot more than just his family heritage. He is an excellent communicator, has conservatism in his ‘gut’ due to his family’s move from Communist Cuba. He knows what a tyrant is, and understands freedom. There are times when he speaks that I hear Reagan circa 1965-1980. Highly articulate, unambiguously conservative, and gifted in clear, direct communication.
He’s got more upside than any politician I have seen since Reagan, if he stays true and stops using liberal speak on immigration. (immigration seems to be the Achilles heel for anyone from Texas or Florida, unfortunately)
I think DC insiders see hispanic, and Florida electoral votes, but base voters (immigration aside) see the articulate leadership we have all been desperate to find.
Huck is a RINO? Agree he is way too loose with the budget, but he will absolutely help shore up the social conservatives.
