Has Your Health Care Premium Gone Up Since Obamacare Was Passed?
factcheck.org ^ | none | none

While Democrats campaigned for their vaunted health care plan, Obama repeatedly said "If you like the plan you have now, you will be able to keep that plan". Every time he said it, I couldn't help but notice that he NEVER mentioned what would happen to the price of that plan. He stopped short of saying, "Oh, you can keep it all right, but you'll have to pay a lot more for it". The accompanying link tries to convince us that the rise isn't real ("don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain, just listen to what we tell you"). It insists that Republicans are just evil naysayers; that the real reason premiums were rising was the increase in health care costs. Not! Did anyone really believe them when they said their benevolent legislation “could save families $2,500 in the coming years”?

Mine has not.

How very nice for you! May I ask if you happen to be a union worker - federal, state, county, city, UAW, SEIU, etc.?

It is pitiful that we don’t hear these stories in the media! “Journalism” has become a running joke!

It makes me furious that the media hasn’t picked up on this. Not surprising, just infuriating!

My premium starting going up dramatically in 2009, as they were debating it and trying to force it through. It’s gone up every year.

Total: about 64%. I know that’s not as bad as yours. But it’s bad enough...to make one sick!

No. I am not a union worker in a Federal, State, County, City, UAW, SEUI, or any other kind of union. I am a computer contractor, and competition for good developers is still strong.

But you are correct: It *is* nice for me. Thanks!

Judging by the number of responses to this post, many, many people are experiencing huge increases in their health premiums. Increases of 40% to 80% are not unusual. For the press or the politicians (whoever) to be saying those costs are going up “3% to 9% annually, there have to be a lot of people on the “no-increase” side. It would be natural to assume that the majority of those are union members. You are the very fortunate exception! Good for you!

I don’t have healthcare insurance and I don’t want any.

Every day I get spam mail of insurance companies trying to sell me insurance, State Farm is especially pushy.

Well, remember, this is a self-selected survey. Those who’s premiums went up drastically are more likely to post.

It's not as bad as mine WOULD HAVE BEEN if the company had accepted the price. Instead, the employees voted against continuing with Blue Cross. We now have a policy that costs 35% more in two years, but it is is a much lesser policy!

Dems keep insisting that forcing people to buy health insurance is the same as forcing people to buy auto insurance. What they never point out is - we don’t force the people who purchase their own car insurance to buy it for those who choose not to.

For 2013, only High Deductible plans with HSA accounts will even be offered. Deductible + premium is $8200 for family before “coverage” pays a dime.

When they first announce Obamacare, my insurance went up about $136 a month more. I just got another notice yesterday, after the supreme court did their thing, and it is going up another additional $114 starting in Aug. I am retired, but only 62,so I have to pay for what ever type of plan that I can afford on a monthly bases. I do not get medicare or anything. This is getting so expensive.

My husband’s plan he continued with, after he retired from work. I was originally on it as well, but when Obama first passed in what 2009, it raised the price so high for both of us, we could not afford it any longer. So, I opted to get out of it, and look for a plan just for me. We had to keep it for my husband, as he has had cancer, and could not get insurance from anyone else. So, i got a separate plan for me, and just make monthly payments.

I cannot afford to keep making these higher payments. What they want me to pay now, is back like what are original plan was asking for when I opted out, due to it being too costly for both of us on it.
