Jonah Goldbergs first book was called Liberal Fascism. It was a screed, of course, but a clever one. He argued that liberals who routinely denounce extreme conservatives as fascists should take a look in their own backyard, and he wasnt fooling around: It is my argument that American liberalism is a totalitarian political religion. Goldberg has read around a bit, and he was able to lace his thesis with embarrassing quotations from progressives past who expressed admiration for Italian Fascism, eugenics and other assorted statist atrocities. But his essential point was a simple one: fascists believe in state control of almost everything, and so do liberals.

Get it. Read it (or listen to it on Audible.com) and be prepared to shut down those lazy thinking liberals who use Cliches to justify every issue they support. He goes into how Cliches are developed to appear to answer the question eloquently but in reality just builds a straw man which in totally unrelated to reality and the subject at hand.
I am about halfway through it and find it interesting. I don’t think it is an “out-tha-park homerun” that Liberal Fascism was but it is a different attempt worthy of the booki shelf of any Freeper.
For those who have only read his columns, his book(s) are head and shoulders above what he does in his columns.
I heard him interviewed and this sounded like a good book. What was the most striking take down in your opinion?
Just finished it the other day. Terrific book. I did a lot of underlining...

I agree. It’s good, but “Liberal Fascism” was like a reference book for me. I run back to it a lot.
There are so many absolute out of the ball park hits I couldn’t count them.
I was sitting in front of my computer listening to the audio book and I was clapping, laughing, screaming at the monitor (Right F’ing on).
I found I was gritting my teeth in total joy and enthusiasm that my jaw started hurting after a half hour.
I have NEVER been moved like this from a “Political Book” in my E N T I R E life.
Does Jonah read the book himself, or is it read by a professional?
He is about the only author that actually reads the book himself.
I am taking exerts from the book and will present it to our Tea Party Meeting next week.
That’s a good idea. I think that it will generate a good deal of discussion that will lead to some very useful ideas for the group. Good Luck.
