Censor gets a workout at BET Awards

There were extended moments of muted silence during performances by Kanye West's G.O.O.D. group, Nicki Minaj, Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee. But the bleepers couldn't catch all the vulgarities.

The BET Awards became the Bleep Awards on Sunday, as entire segments of performances were muted out due to foul language. Still, censors failed to catch many vulgarities that were uttered onstage, from performances by Nicki Minaj to even a parody by Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee.

It started during the opening number by Kanye West's G.O.O.D. music group, which included Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. There were extended moments of censored silence when the rappers performed “Mercy,” though not all the offending words were bleeped out. Moments later, Jackson, the show's host, was joined by Lee as they did a comedic version of Jay-Z and West's hit song “… In Paris,” to laughs.

“Two distinguished Morehouse men,” Lee joked after the performance, referencing the alma mater of the two.

The censor police also worked overtime when Rick Ross performed with his Maybach Music Group and during Minaj's performance and acceptance speech for best female hip-hop artist. Minaj's win was her third consecutive time taking the prize.

“I really, really appreciate BET for keeping this category alive, and I appreciate all the female rappers doing their thing, past, present and future,” she said, before uttering an obscenity.

Gospel star Yolanda Adams, who also performed, gently took some of her peers to task as she won best gospel artist, urging them to act mature and use their fame wisely.

“We need all of ya'll,” she said. “I'm saying the world needs everyone in this room. Please make sure that you use your gift responsibly, `cause we're watching. Our babies are watching, and they want to be like us.”

Didn't Hussein send a tweet that this was a BFD? Or was that for something else?

What a (sub)culture!

If this was the WET awards, the government would be charging fines! Oh, wait. There are no WET awards because there’s no wet.

Reminds me of an old joke about black profanity. If a black man and a white man fell off a ten story building, which one would hit the ground first?

The answer must be Trayvon Martin. I'd never heard that joke befoe (or I forgot it). So I googled it. Martin came up as most of the results.

Watching the BET awards would be about the same as watching the opening scene of 2001 a Space Odyssey.

Well, we have fallen pretty far. Hope we don’t go farther into the toilet as you suggest.

But, we live in a world in which Madonna now exposes herself during concerts. The envelope is being pushed.

Did all of you hear that Madonna exposed herself? First she exposed a breast. Then she turned around and fully exposed her buttocks.

So the only barrier left for Madonna to break is full frontal downstairs.

And the rappers have pushed the envelope so far on vile and violent language, that they can’t even do an awards show without bleeping out half of it. This is a good thing????? We have to be liberal and non-judgemental about everything nowadays????

Didn't the SCOTUS just recently rule that anti-obscenity regulations by the FCC are unconstitutional? I seem to recall that they stated that the network (CBS?) didn't have to pay the fine for the "nipple-slip" by Janet Jackson at the Superbowl.

I guess they were just trying to take advantage of their new "rights!"

The answer is: The white guy. The black guy would stop on the way down to spray paint “m_____F_____” on the wall.

Why bother censoring? Will it help the degenerate see the error of their ways?

Only Jesus can save! Not the FCC or the goobamint!

VP Joe Biden said that Obamacare was a “Big Fu**ing Deal!” and then after the Men & Ladies in Black Dresses decreed it to be hyper-Constitutional, I seem to recall one of them re-iterating that it is a BFD.

Such as it is in Obamaland.

Whenever Obama supporters gather the place needs to be disinfected afterwards.

Used to be able to use soap now even Bleach is not strong enough.

Well the good news is this was a higher class sort of people as they were not pooping on cars like the Occupy people.

Saying he’d have to stop to ask directions might be considered racist. Giving him credit for tagging gives him street cred. And remember, it ain’t racist if it’s true and you don’t use racist words to tell it.
