STRAWBERRY BIRDS
self | July 06, 2021 | swampsniper

From a retention pond on the Flagler Hospital campus, St. Augustine Florida. The little Cypress trees were full of Roseate Spoonbills and Common Moorhens were all over the place. The Moorhens saw me coming and hid the chicks before I could get a decent shot. One squawk and all the little ones head for cover.

Resplendent! Awesome! We don’t get to see birds like this in other parts of the country, except through your outstanding photography. Thanks.

There was a tiny Baby Bunny in our yard Monday afternoon. Its body was only about 3" long.
That's all the 'wildlife' we ever see now. [Mourning Doves (fancy pigeons) and squirrels don't count]

Except for Skunks (4 legged), at night. While walking the dog.
That's mostly; Not Good. ;-)

I love those Spoonbills. There is a tidal island just off of Sanibel where they nest. I nicknamed the island “Pink Paradise”. The Speckled Trout fishing was great there too. Always a good boat trip.

Those Moorhens can be found all over the place in the holding ponds surrounding the golf course near my inland home. The red on their bills is just as brilliant in real life.

Thanks for the pictures Swampsniper. So glad you are enjoying your new eyesight!

Roseate Spoonbills, beautiful photos. We saw them down on the Texas coast a lot too. Thanks for the pics.

I wish you had been here a few days ago to take a picture of the Black Witch Moth on my kitchen window screen. 6” from wing tip to wing tip. Kinda scared me, I was afraid it was a rabid bat. When I got close enough to take a pic with my little camera it flew away.

Thank you for the wonderful gift of your pictures for us, Swampy! You know how much my youngest daughter LOVES those “pink birds”. She insists that all of them are females.... since they wear pink! You are truly a gifted photographer... Hugs, Mom

More please, swampsniper, and thanks. I am new to viewing your work. Do you perhaps have a website where your past efforts are on display? If not, IMHO, you should.
Thanks again.

Excellent photos as usual, SWAMPSNIPER. The roseates are one of my favorite birds. I envy you living close to the birds of your photos -- I have to drive three to five hours to get to my favorite birding spots near the Texas gulf coast.

Here is a roseate spoonbill from an Audubon Society rookery at Smith Oaks in High Island, Texas.

And here is a common moorhen with babies (they did disappear quickly into the underbrush like yours did). Taken at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge in Texas this week.
