When Jackson makes the news, its never good.

Some famous people are from Jacktown.

isn’t there a classic story about an old woman that was living with a corpse?

True, but she could have cashed the checks without having to keep the corpse around like that.

Really a sad story when you consider the fact that two of his kids lived blocks away and didn’t think anything of it when they didn’t hear from him for several months.

It’s the NASCAR angle that really makes it poignant.

The same day this story ran in the local paper was another about an old man who went to a nursing home in Jackson and shot his wife and killed himself.

He couldn’t care for her at home and both were broken heated about her having to be in the nursing home.

It's Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily".

Now that really is poignant. I guess he felt that was the least bad option. How sad.

This part about interviewing one of the sons says a lot:

“He was standing on the sidewalk outside his apartment in a house on Blackstone Street, wearing bent glasses and a cut-off T-shirt. He is on disability because of heart trouble and does not work, he said. Several friends sat on the porch or in chairs outside his home, drinking from tall cans”

Sad is when both corpses are found together in a lovers embrace with the TV on the NASCAR channel.

THIS is just weird.

Reverse the roles ..

There you are, Crip ... layin' in bed with your dead wife, munchin' potato chips and drinkin' beer watchin Jeff screw up a race, again .. and someone comes walkin' in your room, 'cause you were too engrossed with the (whatever) 200 ...

?!?
