Change the name to State Penn and incarcerate pedophiles in the facilities. It already has showers which can double as an inmate recreational area.

I agree with you. I’m sick of hearing that the trustees may have known, different officials may have known, etc. These people should be all be canned IMMEDIATELY and the football program should be completely dissolved.

I’m inclined to agree.

Collitch football. Does it make a net income for the collitch? If it does, let’s be frank about it and treat it lke a profit-making adjunct to a non-profit institution.

If it DOESN’T then cui bono? To whose REAL benefit is it.

I look at the University stadium where I live. It’s got a jumbotron and all that stuff. And the cost of security alone at a football game — gotta be minimum $100k. If university sports teams are farm teams + diplomas, okay. Let’s just be clear.

Instead of shutting it down just rename the school to Pedophile State University. That will have a much bigger effect.

But that might offend somebody. /s (quoting the egghead Board of Trustees).

Seriously, my hubby and I were talking about this yesterday. I suggested the program needs shuttering for 5-10 years and then let them rebuild (if they can). Anyone on a football scholarship needs to be fully compensated by Penn State.

Oh, and they need to ‘clean house’ just like you suggested.

I have a suggestion that is both more extreme and less extreme: fire all the athletic staff, but don’t abolish athletics, instead return them to their roots as student-organized student activities. If they want a coach, let them find a member of the faculty who used to play the sport in question to volunteer his or her time to coach them like college sports had back at the turn of the twentieth century. (Heck, I’d even go so far as to allow a faculty member coaching a sports team to get a one-course per year load reduction during the semester that contained the bulk of the given sport’s season.)

It would help to get government out of the schools and put God back into our school system. Then we can love sports and have people like Tebow, who can be role models for our young. Hard work and physical excellence should have a place in the formation of character.

Currently—all media glorifies evil athletes and denigrates the Godly ones. It changed in the 70’s when moral relativism (situational ethics) was forced into the classroom and God eliminated from the public square.

The Ethics of Marx was forced into our Nation and our Rights from God ejected. (Unconstitutional).

Justice was eliminated and unequal law—was allowed by “judges” and courts to create Legal Positivism—Rule of Man—where Moral Absolutes no longer existed in American jurisprudence-—the Ethics of Marx and perverts removed the Ethics of the Bible—the basis of Common Law and all American Jurisprudence until Oliver Wendell Holmes (Fabian Socialist) helped removed God from Law Schools and the courts.

Culture needs to have moral role models if society is to survive. We need to put character and statesmanship back into politics and universities.

Morality CANNOT exist in the schools when government has their iron grip on them. Government needs to get out-—and unions—and parents need to control the boards and understand Marxist ideology and its evil and incompatibility with U.S. Constitution. It is evil and dehumanizing and belongs OUT of our schools. Right now Marxist/atheism is the only allowed religion and belief system in these universities. It leads to all sorts of immorality-—such as Sandusky. Without God, there is no Right and Wrong.

Virtue is necessary for freedom and a Republic. It is why the Cultural Marxists are destroying Virtue in children through Sex Ed in schools and vulgar entertainment. It is intentional because immorality will destroy culture and bring down our Nation. Decades of this Godlessness is showing its ugly head—culminating in Sandusky.

The promotion of sodomy by all universities is evil and will result in evil and the idea that there is no Right and Wrong. (If it feels good, do it—Cultural Marxist philosophy). Who (if no God) will dare say sodomy with boys is “wrong”, if sodomy is “good” and natural?

I can go along with most of you ideas. However on bulldozing the buildings and field, I have to say no.
The entire complex (including the statute of Paterno should be left as is for the next 50 years. Fence them in and padlock them and put armed guards to keep the local trash from trashing them. But let the dust, cobwebs and normal decay take place. Then in 50 years, open it up to studies of just how big money corrupted college sports. By then, it should be the perfect setting.

Which is why you don’t allow irrational emotion to drive what ought to be done.

1. Fire everyone who knew about this and did nothing.
2. Prosecute everyone who knew about this and did nothing. People with more power bear more responsibility and need harsher penalties.

3. After their trials begin their immediate jail sentences.
4. Suspend any sports programs affected by this for 1 year, in order to hire suitable, sound replacements and begin rebuilding the teams around decent coaches and support staff. Forcing them to take a year off allows them to get vet people more thoroughly without worrying about just getting anyone in because they need to get ready quickly for competition.

You don’t kill off all sports because that doesn’t hurt the perverts, it hurts hundreds of kids across however many years you kill off sports. The goal is to punish those that actually deserve the punishing.

5. You revamp rules and procedures for coaches and support staff for being around kids.

6. It might be a good thing for the athletic programs to only focus on their college athletes rather than having extra, unnecessary special programs for younger pre college students. Restrict their athletic programs only to their adult college athletes to prevent things like this from occurring again.

Agree completely. Leave the statue in place, but tear down the stadium.

During the Great Global Warming Crime debacle, featuring Penn State’s Michael Mann, the East Anglia, Global Climate Unit, NASA’s Hansen’s complicit emails, I wrote an email to PSU calling for the firing of Michael Mann.

I got back an email that started with “Dear Citizen of the Globe....”

Bulldoze it, dynamite it, and ban PSU from NCAA for a generation or more. They deserve no less.

I remember that PSU would make the claim that the Football program essential underwrote all the other sports at the University. We’re about to find out the extent of the Truth in that statement as I expect that football will be shut down for at least one season.

The longer the trustees drag their feet on developing their plan for regaining control of the football program the more likely the NCAA (or possibly the Big Ten Conference) will do it for them.

I would like to see the Big Ten kick PSU out. When PSU eventually re-establishes the program they should probably be forced to play as a Div 1 A-A or Div II. Without a conference schedule that will be the best that they can do. The program will necessarily shrink to one of controllable proportions.

Next problem is to get rid of the bloat on the PSU Board of Trustees. It’s too large to be an effective decision-making body.

This is ridiculous. I am sick of the rush to crucify Penn State for turning a blind eye to a pediphile. They were wrong, unabashedly wrong. The Head of the University at that time should have been fired and new guidelines created. That is the sum total. What sanctimonious nonsense is being spouted on this board. When public school teachers by the hundreds, catholic priests, UN workers, British public school teachers, boy scout leaders and hosts of thousands have committed the same heinous acts and have had their behavior covered over and sheltered from consequence, this is the incidence that we must unleash the wrath of the Gods upon and sow the ground with salt.
For shame. Let’s stop overreacting and beating chests. The blind eye approach was wrong but it has been wrong every time. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and it is working throughout the country as we become aware of the failure of oversight at Penn State. Perhaps the next group of people who become aware of a problem will meet it head on despite the bad publicity that may result.
Perhaps we should also stop the gradual slide towards immorality from the mainstreaming of NAMBLA and the accomodation of sexual access to our children in schools by agenda driven educators while we are at it.

—I don’t even care who is to blame anymore. —

I’m with you. It’s a school in one of the few states I’ve never been in and none of my kids is likely to attend there.

That makes this story, compared to all the other news stories being covered the last year or so, page 27 material.

IOW, I don’t care either.

Yeah, sure. Punish everyone for the mistakes of a few. Kind of a childish reaction, IMHO. I also think that quite a few in the MSM are piling on here because PSU is a relatively conservative school.

I guarantee that 99.99% of PSU alumni and students would have supported firing Sandusky in a heartbeat given what he had done. The people in charge who touched this tar baby should be fired and, if warranted, prosecuted. I also think that Paterno’s statue should be removed. Maybe suspend the football program for 1-2 years for good measure. Anything other than that is overkill.
