Thank you Barack Obama

I am a 62 year old engineer who is wheelchair bound. I just got laid off from my job, and I have applied to like 50 jobs so far with no success. I doubt I find one before the election because everyone is afraid to hire because of the uncertainty, and with Obamacare looming, I don't blame them. If Obama is re-elected I am afraid my goose is cooked along with millions of others in the same shape that I am. It's not my nature to seek handouts, so applying for disabilty, social security, etc. is not an option for me, as long as I know that I have the skills to perform a job well. All I can say is damn that. We must defeat Obama. There is no other choice.

I’m a 50 year old unemployed engineer. I’m going to work one more year as an assistant teacher, then I’ll be eligible for State Retirement. I’m going to get my time in, then look for engineering work in the Dakotas, or even in the oilfields in Canada. I have a Petroleum Engineering degree, but most of my experience is in Civil, mainly Geotechnical Engineering and Highway work. I have experience with the Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA), as well as have a Class One Concrete Technician’s certificate. If I can get a job in either Petroleum or Civil, that’d be fine with me.

Not only that FRiend , but your next wheelchair will be more expensive.

Obama was so concerned with the handicapped that he placed a tax on the manufacturers of products for the handicapped.

What a compassionate guy.

Unemployment comp and social security are not handouts. You paid for them. Take them if you need them.

Ottbmare is 100% correct!

Think of it this way. Suppose you have a home insurance policy. Every year you pay the premiums. It would be wrong of you to file a claim if your home was not really damaged. But if you really had damage, you would not hesitate to file a claim. That's what insurance is for.

The same applies here.

That sounds like a plan! I wish you the best of luck on that.

Good advice on both counts. We sometimes forget that we have paid into disability, and we have no idea how much we paid into SS because we forget that the employer pays the disability and half of the SS. Everyone’s paycheck is lighter so that the employer can pay those premiums.

Federal contractors will be looking for such skills and status. Move quickly, sequestration may bring it all to a screeching halt.

I guess you are all correct on this. I was just raised to be independent and to stand on my own, ie. to be a conservative. I suppose that I may not have a choice if nothing materializes soon.

Good evening...if that is possible.

The First lady and I are at rock bottom. I won't go into to details, but we are sucking swamp water.

We, and you will get through this. Trust in the Lord.

Damn man you scared me. When you said the First lady I did a double take to see if your handle was Barry or Barack~ Well I hope everything works out well with you as well. I am reminded of the Cheech and Chong movie.."Things are tough all over".

I certainly understand that. It's the American way. Or at least it used to be. But please consider this. There are handouts, and then there is insurance. Social security, disability, and unemployment benefits are all forms of insurance. They are NOT handouts. You have paid (mandatory) premiums for all of them over the years.

Would you think less of a neighbor who filed a legitimate insurance claim after his house was damaged in a storm?

Same applies here!

My company does instruments, controls, and systems, and we have been hiring recently. The work is well-suited for a EE. Where do you live.

LOL. I have referred to my wife as the "First lady" since I have been on this forum. I tend to think everyone here knows that. My bad.

We will get through this mess, and so will you.

In Jesus' name, amen.

I live in Huntsville, Alabama and really cannot re-locate. Do they have a Huntsville office? Most technology firms do.

You ROCK L. Woodham! Engineers are awesome, and I don't know if you're civil, electrical, geotechnical, mechanical, structural, transportation or heck even an audio engineer but I know your work has enhanced our lives in countless ways. I am glad you posted and share your anger at the marxist nightmare we're in. You are in my prayers and I hope you post updates so we can celebrate your new job with you. God will provide:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

You’ve paid for years for that money to be there as your safety net. It is not a handout.

what kind of engineer?

personally, once this Marxist/progressive/anti-American asshat is out of office, I will be starting up my business again... assuming we actually take steps to radically reduce taxes and spending

if taxes and spending stay at current levels, hell if I’ll be their bitch boy

Obama was so concerned with the handicapped that he placed a tax on the manufacturers of products for the handicapped.

My favorite part of the "affordable care act," which Pelosi, Reid, and Obama sold as bringing down the cost of medical care (though they depended on nobody actually reading the text of the act) was adding taxes to all sorts of medical devices, like implants, pacemakers, etc. So this act was going to bring down the cost of medical care by making medical procedures more expensive.

Sorry, no Huntsville, although ironically, my current plant project is about 25 miles west of you. My office is just outside of Atlanta. For application work, you would have to relocate here. You might want to check with Siemens. They are doing a lot of turbine work and power generation right now.
