Magical Mystery Tour has acid written all over it. Great album.

My favorite song from that album is Blue Jay Way which, as far as I know, is the only Beatles song about Los Angeles. I used to live on Kings Road, a mile and a half from Blue Jay Way, which is in Doheny Estates. Both streets are in the same zip code.

All the streets in the neighborhood are named for birds--Dr. Rodger Swearingen of the USC School of International Relations, a much-published expert on the Soviet Union, lived on Kinglet Dr., just down the hill and a few blocks away from Blue Jay.

I want them to get with the program, that’s all. Justin Bieber is the Billy J. Kramer of today, and what’s their name are today’s Beatles. Same thing, only in Surround Sound this time.

I doubt the Lawrence Welk crowd knew what a “toke” was in 1971.

“But Dr.....What does it mean?”

Okay,,,, a reasonable question. I am a retired pro musician. I’m an instrumentalist, never been a vocalist. So to me, the vocal line, and the lyrics are just another instrument. I hear it as a human instrument, making sounds. I never have a clue about what lyrics mean. I don’t digest music that way. I hear music as a whole, not separate parts. So to me, “Walrus” is a complete sound, and not just parts. Lennon was great at putting “sounds” together. Some verses in some of his songs are so “glottal” that they sound German, even though they’re in English. He was great at that. Sometimes his lyrics make no sense “lyrically” but make wonderful sense “sonically!”
There was a German study, done just recently, and reported here a day or so ago, that dealt with “musical minds.” Some very interesting results! I have a “musical mind.” My search abilities here are so poor, perhaps someone more “Computer-minded” can find me the link? Some interesting differences.

My Sister play classical flute beautifully. But play a song for her, and she really can’t mentally recall, nor hear, in her mind, the music. Put sheet music in front of her, and she’ll play it beautifully. Alas, she doesn’t really have a musical mind.

I'm not sure what my favorite Beatles song is, but Helter Skelter (1968) is a candidate.

They have neither red, glassy eyes (weed and hash symptoms), pinpoint pupils (heroin, oxycodone, opiates), or dialated pupils (lsd, mescaline, 'shrooms, all psychedelics). They are as sober as judges, and lip-synching their asses off.

Where do you get this "stoned" crap? Objection, your honor. Assumes facts not in evidence.

Odd that the Beatles were in color, but Ed was in B&W

Thanks..that is interesting.

My brother is a musician and says the same re: the voices and lyrics being part of the music. Not a defineable sound to him.

Me..I have not been blessed with the muse.

I just like do drive down the road singing off key at the top of my lungs. :)

"They peaked at Rubber Soul and Revolver. And then began the slide."

Oh, now, I wouldn't go that far. :) Those were two stellar albums...but you can't discount their subsequent works entirely. "Magical Mystery Tour" was a throw-away, but Sgt. Pepper was a masterpiece. "The White Album" was a wonderful mix of hit-or-miss classics. "Let It Be" was cathartic.

Overall, I'd have to say that there never has been, nor will there likely be, a single group that has such impact on the music world, or the world in general, in such a short period of time as the Beatles had.
