Vin Scully translates and sanitizes Jim Tracy's remarks to the umpires.

Scully famously would not read on-air promos for “The Best Damned Sports Show Period”.
“I was taught you did not use the word Damn on the radio when I started my career, and I’m not going to start using it now”.
3:50: “Jim’s gone, so he’s spending house money now.”
My one wish as a baseball fan is that someone invents an immortality pill and gives it to Vin Scully. This is just a wonderful clip.
To each there own, I guess.
For me, Vin Scully talks too fast, says too much, and his high-pitched nasal sound irritates. I want to relax when I watch baseball.

Both Tracy and Scully were right, it should have been a caught ball and 3rd out for the inning.
However, no harm done to CO Rockies due to the missed call.
In fact, there should be electronic strike zones as well. It is such a joke that a pitch 3" inside is a ball when Todd Helton is at bat and a strike when Rookie Gordon Pacheco is at bat.

For us Tiger fans there will never be anyone who even comes close to replacing Ernie Harwell. He had that great voice and was never afraid to tell the world of his love of God and baseball.
He was also a baseball poet.

Look at the picture on the website - the ball is touching the ground. No catch. After conferring, the umps got it right.
Vinny was great, although you didn’t need a translator to read Tracy’s lips.
If you want poetry with your baaeball. Scully is the man for that.
If you want to learn something about the game while you watch baseball, tune into SNY’s Mets Broadcasts with Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling as PBP men. You’ll get inside-baseball stuff like nobody else.
Scully’s narrative was funny.
1. Vince Lombardi and Scully were good friends (probably back to the Fordham days).
2. Scully was at Sandy Koufax’ tryout, thought he was an “okay” prospect.
Unless its the third out of the inning, there are cases where the players have to know the call to know what play to make. But if the umpire calls the third out, theres no reason not to review the call during the change of inning. Of course we know that the umpires initial call is right </sarcasm>, so there is no delay caused by the review process. If it turns out not to be an out after all, proceed on a ground rule sort of basis, with runners advancing only as much as necessary. In fact, there should be electronic strike zones as well. It is such a joke that a pitch 3" inside is a ball when Todd Helton is at bat and a strike when Rookie Gordon Pacheco is at bat.
The thing is, its the pitchers job to make sure his pitches are not so obviously balls that the batter can ignore them - or so obviously strikes as to be easy pickings for the batter to hit.Never mind the inconsistency from batter to batter, just the inconsistency from umpire to umpire is bad enough. In the pre-digital age, it wasnt really practical to automate the calling of balls. But now, you could easily call balls digitally to better precision and much better repeatability than a human umpire can achieve.
BTW, its a safety issue - a guy can get hurt standing behind the catcher to call balls and strikes!
” 2. Scully was at Sandy Koufax tryout, thought he was an okay prospect. “
Koufax had speed when he first joined the Dodgers in 1955 , but for the first 4-5 years had serious controls problems , plus injuries inc. elbow arthritus . He asked to be traded in ‘60 , but was not . He finished with 8-13 . He came close to quitting baseball , but gave it one more year . Sandy finally came into his own in 1961 .
Vin Scully TALKS TOO FAST???? And has a HIGH PITCHED VOICE????
Are you certain you know who Vin Scully is?
Must have been funny listening to Vin sanitize Tracy's rant!
Some of my best memories are of my father and I listening to Ernie while sitting on our front porch, lights off, no real conversation, and just looking into the woods.
Quiet, serene, and Harwell's voice narrating the game. Life was good.
“2. Scully was at Sandy Koufax tryout, thought he was “
an okay prospect.
In his first few years Koufax was wild.
Then he became one of the most dominating pitchers ever, imo. For a few years.
