WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. The biggest Burmese python ever caught in Florida 17 feet, 7 inches long and 164½ pounds was found in Everglades National Park, the University of Florida announced Monday.
The snake was pregnant with 87 eggs, also said to be a record. Scientists said the python's stats show just how pervasive the invasive snakes, which are native to Southeast Asia, have become in South Florida.
"It means these snakes are surviving a long time in the wild," said Kenneth Krysko, a snake expert at the Florida Museum of Natural History, where the euthanized snake was brought. "'There's nothing stopping them and the native wildlife are in trouble."

I couldn't help but thinking...
... or your local taxidermist.
Just post a bounty of $1.00/inch. That should remove a lot of them.
according to Florida fish and game....you need a hunting license and they can be hunted in any open season...and there are hunting seasons for various animals, like hogs or rabbits that are year round...
ergo you can kill them year round with a florida hunting license.
to TRAP them you need a special permit.
I have to say, I often search for things on FR and cannot find them. Even when I already know they are here. I think you have to hold your tongue a certain way and have that search mojo. Some of us just don’t have it.
BTW BIG snake! Too close to where I live for comfort.
I wonder how you trap them?
sorry probably go that part wrong....
you can CATCH them live....is where I was going...not trap.
when I was a kid we use to use a forked stick to catch medium to large local snakes in NY State and pin the head to the ground and grab as close to the head as possible....though for a huge python it would probably require someone to keep the big brute from wrapping its coils around your neck...
Yeah, or a really big stick! Haha. In general I’m not afraid of snakes, when I see one in the yard I run for my camera. I’m cautious if their venomous of course. But I still don’t think I’d like to meet one of these. I’d get out of there. AFTER I took a photo.
their should have been they’re. I do know the difference. Drat, I hate when you are proof reading after you hit send.
You're right - these guys are eating all the native animals... even feasting on small alligators. Open season - easy trade on snake skins... time to hunt them out of existence.
The King Cobra is a beautiful snake. I had an encounter about the same year at Newport Pier in Saigon. Scared the daylights out of me.
The “search” function usually leaves much to be desired.
:)
A snake like that is no threat to you.
Do not be afraid.
It’s just a snake.
LOL!
That was cool.
:)
It could fall on my head and break my neck!
no snake contraceptives....
with a female rubber snake with long eyelashes..*blink blink*
Now THAT could work!
LOL
camped out in the foothills of the Catalina range by Tucson in 1975.... a diamond back killed a dog in camp overnight...we found the snake curled up under the engine of my motorcycle(I had been out late that night partying in town and the engine was warm and of course the snake was attracted to the warmth)...I needed a hatband, but other people in the camp frowned upon me offing the snake. so I pinned its head with a stick....and then the rest of the guys took turns attempting to grab it...then demured and backed off for a second thought on the best way to do it....then one guy just grabbed it and it was put in a plastic bucket with tight fitting lid and driven around 10 miles away.....catch and release.
....thats my story.
