Reuters ^

Posted on 08/24/2012 4:10:12 PM PDT by Perdogg

A U.S. jury on Friday said Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has infringed some of Apple Inc's patents, and that all of those patents are valid.

The verdict in the high-stakes trial between the two tech giants was still being read in a federal courtroom in San Jose, California, and not all of the key legal findings had been announced.

The usual standard is based on determining if the usage would "cause confusion in the minds of the consumers".

Very dissimilar products and services can have similar trade dress, names, shapes, logos etc.

However, your hypothetical detergent manufacturer would only survive about ten minutes after the first child swilled down a bunch from a Coca Cola shaped bottle...

Objective-C was created primarily by Brad Cox and Tom Love in the early 1980s at their company Stepstone. Both had been introduced to Smalltalk while at ITT Corporation's Programming Technology Center in 1981.

State of the art in 1981 (30+ years ago).

I frankly dont care what Rush uses.

If he carries that arrogant view of Apple losers that this ruling is some wonderful thing, then he is as much of an idiot as they are.

I would never believe that he would.

See what I mean? The exact same snotty condescending attitude you normally see from your average lefty is personified even in conservatives that project from their love of iProducts.

Clear to me that you don't like Apple products, but your arguments against Mac users are puerile and, and frankly, quite ridiculous. Your arguments sound like a 6 year old child made them up!

Do you still suck your thumb?

I have trust me. Spent a year doing it. It is arcane when compared to Java and C#.

The Interface builder is buggy for IOS and NIBs? It’s much better to manually code screens. Everyone knows that. So why can’t Interface Builder reverse engineer screens?

Jobs didn’t give a crap that’s why.

“Clear to me that you don’t like Apple products,”

After using bogus lawsuits to try to block competitors over stuff they did not invent, but rushed out to patent? Yeah I certainly do (HATE) that company and anti-capitalist attitude they bring to the table. And anyone with a brain should be ticked as well.

But the way the typical Apple elitist thinks, as spelled out in the first post of this story, we are supposed to be cheering this? Like how does the free market benefit from that outfit being able to use patents on stuff they did not create to strangle the market in the courts?

Oh noooooo it is not childish at all to have a view of those people similar to what I have to the average O-bot whose drooling worship of his power-grabbing ways mirrors Apples to a tee.

So go ahead and love your Apple stuff if you want, but dont pretend like people’s disgust at the whole odious culture surrounding them is completely off-base.

Good news against the Asian counterfeiters and copycats.

It's not just China that does this, Korea does exactly the same thing. They're vermin.

A person would have to hate Apple with all their heart for their perceived 'liberalism' in order to side against them with Asian counterfeiting pirates who copy consumer electronics, distribute illegal software, violate patent law, place granulated plastic in exported dog food, poison in doggy treats, and for all I know, ground up infant bones in all of the sheetrock/drywall that they ship to America.

Anyone out there still hating Apple Inc is basically a flipping idiot. Look at their market price. Look at their products. The hell is wrong with some of you people?

Intellectual property in the digital age has become this smoke and mirrors concept where global corporations can own what they did not even create or design. It is what they find and recognize and store on servers.

Most Americans haven’t a clue that Facebook and other such sites may own the total rights to one’s life experiences and network of friends and photos and everything that you voluntarily place on their servers.

You thought it was all a freebie for your benefit. Read their Terms and Conditions.

And folks, it’s called intellectual property.

Look, I own an iPad and a Mac, along with several PC's and a few servers in my house. You can't tell me that a "patent" on a "rectangular surface with rounded corners" is valid.

That'd mean the coffee tables, dining room table and kitchen table in my house violate Apple patents FFS. That's absurd.

I'm going to Comp-USA first thing tomorrow morning and buying a Samsung Windows Tablet before they get pulled off the market because of this.

Yes lets look at Apples cash reserves..must be nice to be sitting on a 100 billion dollars of overcharging your customers. Must be nice to have a market cap of 621 billion while only employing 60k people, while outsourcing 99% of their labor to asian sweatshops(ever major does this). It sure would be nice if this all american company would move the manufacturing back stateside.

Apple stole the GUI and mouse from Xerox. When are the penalties for THAT?

Are you being sarcastic? Apple paid some licensing fees, and also gave Xerox the option to buy 100,000 shares of pre-IPO stock at $1 million for access to the technology.

Xerox took the option to buy those shares, but they didn't hold on to them for too long. If Xerox had been wise and held on to that stock, it'd be 800,000 shares today, worth well over half a billion dollars.

Then again, if Xerox had been wise, they'd be almost as big as IBM, if not bigger, and Microsoft would probably just still be selling Office and maybe compilers.
