A farmer in southern Nepal mistook his son for a monkey trying to steal his crops and shot the 12-year-old dead, police said on Sunday.
Chitra Bahadur Pulami had been climbing a tree to chase away macaques that had become a nuisance to the family but his father Gupta Bahadur, 55, spotted the boy and opened fire, wrongly believing him to be one of the animals.

The three species of monkey native to Nepal, the rhesus and Assamese macaque and the common langur, are considered sacred, and farmers normally try to scare them away from their crops without injuring the animals. …. . . so why does this man shoot at (what he claims he thought was) a sacred monkey? All righty then.
We don’t know anything about this situation or the people involved, this searching the globe for oddities and unusual events, and portraying them as reflective of something that we can relate to in our normal, American life, is destructive.

I hate when that happens.
One time I was getting into the shower, and out of the corner of my eye I saw my reflection in the mirror and panicked, thinking I was going into the shower with brown pants.
It was actually just my hairy butt and legs that fooled me.
It happens.

Upon hearing of what happened, the father’s brother said, “Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.”

I am surprised at the joking on this thread. That father must be absolutely heartbroken right now, and deserves our prayers, not our jokes.
There isn’t a lot of difference between this event and the tragedy that occasionally happens in American homes, where someone shoots a family member, thinking that they’re a burglar.
Prayers for the Nepalese father who is right now, filled with guilt and grief over his son.
If Obama had a son he might look like.......ah, nevermind.
Keep it high tone. There is absolutely no evidence that the boy was wearing a hoodie.
