Who knows... the next Time Lord may be a Lady (Doctor Who)
UK Daily Mail ^ | August 27, 2012 | Paul Revoir

He's been trying to rid the universe of Daleks since the beginning of time. But as he still hasn’t had any luck, Doctor Who’s creators have decided it may be time to let a Doctor Her have a crack. The boss of the BBC series has conceded that it is more and more likely that fans will get to see the first ever Time Lady.

don’t you know a penis is required for time travel?

Not to nitpick, but there's a Japanese film that has a woman warrior go back in time, and didn't Gloria Reuben do the same in Time Cop?

Now that I think about it, I've come across examples in the 1950s radio shows (based on scifi pulp at the time). "The Old Die Rich" probably has a woman traveler, and there's another one that springs to mind with the plot of a couple escaping in time, and hunted down.

IF DW decides to shake things up this way, I wonder what the over/under is on the number of epis is to deem it a success, failure, or an avoidable suicide?

Nah, if it doesn't fly, they'll probably pull a "Dallas"...

This creates a strong implication that the Time Lords themselves are descended from human time travelers

"Planet of the Dead"
Christina: "You look human."
The Doctor: "No, you look Time Lord. We came first."

For me, it seems wrong not to have a female doc. Their is an inherent randomness to the character's regeneration. I'd truly be appalled by a female Sherlock Holmes or babe James Bond - because those characters are the story, their maleness is inherent to the story, and they are set in stone. Changing them is telling a different story; and means the writer is just cashing in off of someone else's creativity - usually a good sign they lack their own. Probably will not turn out well.

In the case of a female doctor, since I’m older, I’d prefer a smoulderingly sexy older female versus some photospread teenybopper hottie. River, an updated older Emma Peele, or more mature woman....

Now we are talking...:^)

The curse of the fatal death also had a female Doctor, but for comedic effect...

I want Rowan Atkinson as the doctor before he gets too old, or at least a role as a timelord!

The Doctor: "No, you look Time Lord. We came first."

This assumes The Doctor knows the true origins of the Time Lords.

If there is a female Doctor, she would have to be ginger. One of the firsts thing the latest Doctor did when he regenerated was try to get a look at his hair. His comment was "Still not ginger!"

Someone mention the real Doctor?

A clay model my mother made (I need to take a better photo of it). She knitted the scarf by counting rows on a photo from a Sci-Fi magazine and took it to a mini-con where Baker was speaking and got him to sign it. (Yes, that is Bender in the corner)

I kinda like the gal that was the flight teacher from Harry potter, she would have made a great mature woman doctor...

Also I think river could make a great doctor provided she gets ressurected from being stuck in that planet sized library computer... And she inheretis the “Katra” from the doctor...

Hear here! ... Although, Alex would be a nice Who to watch every week, I must say. As to the PC, the homo writer worked in homo attraction with Captain Jack, so the series has suffered foolishness already. Matt is doing a great job, however.

Rowen has already done a comedic stint as DW. I want to see Sean Connery in an episode or three, before he becomes too old.
