Remade as “A Pocketful of Miracles” in 1961 with Glenn Ford and Bette Davis. Re-make is excellent; I’ve never seen the original.

“Three on a Match” and “The Match King” are also on today, and they’re both great old movies.
To: Cincinatus
Had no idea there was a remake and love Bette Davis so will look for it.
Thanks!

I have...
If you put it into the context of the time (Great Depression)
It's a depressing movie and I'll bet they didn't sell many tickets because everyone who had the money to go, wanted to escape from the outside world with movies like "Thin Man" etc. and any screwball comedy that was out there....at least thats what my dad said about the movie when he caught me watching it.
He hated the movie because it reminded him of the stories his family told him about how his father lost his job and they got kicked out of the house they were renting and had to go live with his dads sisters in Youngstown, Ohio during the depression because the family couldn't feed themselves.

A great Damon Runyon story. Been remade a couple of time but always good. Runyon was a class act.

I think of him first for his work on "Guys and Dolls." I don't suppose he wrote the song lyrics but they are great.
What's in the daily news?
I'll tell you what's in the daily news.
A guy bought his wife a small ruby
With what otherwise would have been his union dues.
That's what's in the daily news. . .
That may not be exact, but you get the idea.
