Ah, some great names—BUT . . .
I could be wrong, but I think a character actor is one who traditionally plays non-leading man/lady roles, such as the sidekick, the leading man’s best friend, the comic foil, the butler, etc.

Gotcha. I suppose one should categorize actors.
Leading man/woman
Comic actors(including those who do drama and comedy with equal ease)
Character actors/sidekicks

Joe Sawyer, Frank Faylen & William Bendix --- any movie with any of these is watchable (except maybe the Sawyer/Bendix comedies where they're taxi drivers).
Add Steve Brodie, Ray Teal, Edgar Buchanan (he was a DDS), Alan Hale, Eric Blore, Akim Tamiroff, and a boatload of contract players.

Tracy and Hepburn -—— Let’s all celebrate Gay Hollywood —— yes, both of them.

That's my understanding. And with that I'd like to add the wonderful Ned Sparks and Nat Pendleton to the all time great character actor list. Kibbee and Sparks are as good as it gets IMO.

Tracy and Hepburn
The two most overrated Hollywood stars.

You always know that they were always thinking....”Man, am I a great actor or what?” He was bad enough but she was much worse. Never saw two people more in love with themselves.

She was an ice queen with a feminist hangup. (but was attractive when very young in her first few movies).
He had a few good roles but just had a lecturing, shallow air about him- especially in his later movies. Was a nasty alcoholic I believe.
They also seemed to take leftist type roles/movies.

One of Capra’s best, better than several of his more famous movies.
I tried watching the remake once. Unwatchable. In color. Sets flooded with light. No sentiment, just loud.
To: Vision
Jackie Chan remade this as “Miracles - Mr Canton & Lady Rose.” It was a very good movie, but not as good as Capra’s original.

One of my favorite character actors is one of Preston Sturges’s favorite “mugs,” Bill Demarest.
