Thoughts From A Common Man

No faith, no ideology, no religion, no political affiliation or Party is worth hanging onto or supporting if you won’t allow it to stand the scrutiny of logic, truth and reasoning—it IS as simple as that. If an individual is close-minded to even remotely considering opposing viewpoints or rebuttals to their faith or their politics, then you clearly understand the axiom, “Ignorance is bliss.”

Because of so many sound reasons where the Party compliments—not contradicts—our Christian faith, this is exactly why my wife and I have chosen to be Republicans and not Democrats. Republican ideals stand the test of time, Biblical morality and everyday man (or woman)-on-the-street common sense logic. To add, for the most part, our experience tells us that a Republican is more inclined to argue on truth, facts and logic and is open-minded; a Democrat, on the other hand, allows emotions and tradition to dictate their ideology and political bent, including what they believe the government’s role is vs. the church’s and/or the individual’s.

Entitlement vs. empowerment; feeding a person each day vs. teaching them HOW to fish. Did Jesus Christ ever admonish Caesar—that is, the GOVERNMENT institutions of His time—to be the “safety net,” source of charity, and wealth-distribution hub for the downtrodden in life? No! Rather, it is the INDIVIDUAL (and the church, as a whole) He charged with such action, NOT a government bureaucracy in first-century Rome (or, in our case, 21st-century Washington, D.C.) somewhere.

A person’s worldview means everything, and it is the core--or "filter", if you will--from which they base their decisions, their actions. Get a person to question their worldview--if only briefly initially--and you embark upon a journey where your family, friends or neighbors may actually one day have that "Aha!" moment, where they could end up exclaiming, "You know what? I've been a conservative Republican all this time and just didn't know it!" When that happens, we should all shout a collective, "Amen!" and then move on to the next American who also needs their own "road to Damascus" experience.

As my most-liberal uncle came to visit with my union-supporting (other) uncle, his I-don't-know-who-I-am wife and my family this past Labor Day weekend, I was lying in bed thinking about just what it means to be a Republican these days versus a Democrat, and came up with a few, simple thoughts on this most significant topic. I'm no Charles Krauthammer (whom, I might add, I greatly admire as a writer and commentator), but I do my best. I hope you find some truth in what I say with, "Thoughts From A Common Man."
