VERONA — A suspected robber is dead this morning after being shot by the 92-year-old man whose home he broke into overnight, according to the Boone County Sheriff.
Jones, 92, told police that he heard noise in his basement on Violet Road at 2:10 a.m. and armed himself with a .22 caliber rifle. At about 2:25 a.m., an intruder walked up from the basement and opened the door to the first floor. At that point, Jones told police, he fired his weapon.
Jones called his neighbor, who called 911. When deputies arrived, they found the outside basement door opened with no one but Jones in the house.
Don’t ever try to rob an old man. The rule for fighting an old man goes double. He ain’t gonna wait because he doesn’t have much time left, and none of it to be spent on waiting.
Old folks don’t fight back, they just shoot you.

Try to ‘jack my car. I will shoot you.
Accost me on the street. I will shoot you.
I do NOT shoot to wound.
Some may say this is premeditation but it does make my odds better to be around to act the same way at 90 or better.
Call it what you wish.
All after basic sitrep to police, will definitely ask if I am being arrested and if so, skip the reading of the rights, just lets get to giving me one of those ‘free lawyers’.
That is a great rule. Remember it when the cameras are rolling, the tapes are humming, and the "friendly" police are questioning you. Although not under arrest, insist on your council present prior to answering questions.
It will cost a bit, but more than likely save your ass from self inflicted legal wounds.

you came from a generation that respects life. God gives us life and we are required by God to take care of our life, and take care of our loved one’s lives.
Yes, the constitution tells us that we are to defend our lives and the lives of our loved ones. shoot the ones that would try to destroy lives. screw the left wingers that would deprive us of that right! What are we supposed to do? get down on our hands and knees and beg?
I am glad to hear from people that have some balls. you are like my dad, and i am like him. Americans have balls because our dads had them when the fought in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. me did.

We have an actual law in Texas that approves deadly force if your life or property is in danger. No point in taking up the time of a grand jury in a case like this.
The greatest thing about it was the long string of comments on the local news site congratulating the man.
That's what you get for using .22LR for self-defense. These little bullets are often deadly, but it takes a long time for a criminal to bleed out and drop dead. While that happens the criminal can kill you and everyone else in the house.
On another article a cute but crazy chick broke into a home of (I think) a Psychiatrist. The home owner and his wife awoke with this woman standing at the foot of his bed. He shot her in the leg. Another poster freaked out and went on about “so you would shoot a poor defenseless woman? What if it was your daughter?”
I think I responded that if my wife is in bed, I know she’s not the intruder. Women can be homicidal socio-paths, too!If someone has broken into my home, they are obviously willing to risk injury and death.
It would be nice if his relatives or friends could give him something with a little more oomph behind it. Just a plain old cheap Mossberg with a couple boxes of buckshot wrapped with a big red bow would be perfect.

On the plus side, the flash does not blind you, the blast does not deafen you, and cheap reliable semi-auto versions hold 15 rounds. Three are equal to a 9mm hollowpoint, four are equivalent to a .357 magnum, and 6 are equivalent to a .44 magnum.

As to above, in a similar vein, earlier this week, I had said the above is my plan in a plan. If I am say, in a public place and there are a few people, I will be that old ‘fat’ guy begging for my life and crying while the perp(s) get a big laugh, as I am going for my weapon while they are gloating.
And with some luck there will be someone ‘challenging’ the perp(s)- loudly as I would have done (quite) a few years back, just giving me more time for myself to carry out the ‘plan’.
Everyone, especially if one carries, should have a ‘plan’ and be able to put oneself in a position to carry it out.
You forgot to mention that with barely perceptible recoil you can keep the muzzle on target with no trouble at all.
And in this case the .22 caliber did the job quite well the intruder was persuaded that he had a better chance of survival by retreating. Unfortunately for the intruder he retreated too late and has assumed room temperature.
