More sincerely to all:

If things get so bad that many are really starving (which I doubt, given our agricultural capacities and preparedness), it might be wisest to concentrate more on supporting yourselves than on violence. Granted, there are those of you near relatively more dangerous populations, but even those areas are home to many conservative, decent Americans (believe it or not—been there). They only have higher percentages of violent criminals.

Many of you would lose your incomes from government at the end of a complete default process (might happen) and should be focusing more on having all of the necessities to get through a long, poor spell. I know that very few are really all that well prepared for being out of work and having mortgages foreclosed. It’s wise to save.

As for starving masses, they would be starving...and weak. But this ain’t Egypt. Grow something, or store some food. Self-defense, yes. Always be prepared for that necessity. But don’t plan on firing through the neighbors’ houses with high-speed rounds. That would have terrible consequences. There will always be those who will find ways to support the law and lawmen.

As for the often-mentioned “martial law,” it’s not so bad. I’ve lived under it (the UCMJ), as have many others. It really has some advantages. And the National Guard will not come to steal your food (also often mentioned). Even if the National Guard had an evil twin (as seen on TV), there wouldn’t be any profit in traveling all the way to some house (like mine, in the middle of nowhere) to steal food from it. Fuel and time would be too precious.

As for politics, if you don’t believe that voting will help, starve the beast. Stop buying so many toys and so much junk for entertainment (generates big revenues/debt). Become more self-sufficient. Learn to produce something useful as a hobby. Might need a business after the end of the world (little humor there).

Truth is, most modern Americans havent’ the slightest idea of how to grow their own food. Although an informed individual could easily survive off the land, most lack the knowledge as to how to feed themselves from natures pantry (a good friend referred to this phenomenon as “idiots starving to death in a grocery store”).

Unfortunately, most of our food supply is trucked in from other locations. In the SHTF scenario, I wouldn’t count on any trucks running with basic supplies/staples for a long time.

As for violence, you may more concerned with supporting yourself but others will be intent on violence. They will give you no choice.

The fact is that we’re headed there no matter who wins the election.

Hussein's minions have already been placed in key positions in government departments and agencies who will continue to carry out the destruction of America.

Our problems are way bigger than Obama. He’s barely a pimple compered to our problems that go back decades. The fed loaned out some $16 trillion dollars between 2007 and 3011 that amounted to handing out 16 trillion in IOUs on the promise that the American people will pay at off.

Things simply are not going to get better without a total global collapse.

The GAO audit of the federal reserve.

That has been one of my biggest accomplishments of the past six years, other than my role in my family and in my church. My taxable income is down more than 90% by choice. I refuse to feed the beast more than is useful for our country.

"In the SHTF scenario, I wouldn’t count on any trucks running with basic supplies/staples for a long time."

That's a wild assumption. What is "the SHTF scenario?" Present a specific scenario.

"As for violence, you may more concerned with supporting yourself but others will be intent on violence. They will give you no choice."

That's another assumption. You don't know what others will do or anything about me. What's your proposed "SHTF scenario?" Your comments are popular and often stated by many after the recent shower of zombie movies. Let's put 'em to the test. Please answer the question.

Apologies for writing a reply that might have appeared to be overbearing. I could have found better words. But maybe we should run through likely causes and effects of a given scenario and learn a little more about being prepared.

Well said in your comment #44. Our economy will shrink to be supportable by our levels of production (agriculture, manufacturing, natural resources harvested,...).

Uh, that’s “Military Law.”

“Martial Law” is something different.

The federal reserve with the help of our government have sold us into generational slavery to a debt that we can never pay off.

We need a slave revolt.

I concur: adding fantasy quotes to serious subjects dilutes the seriousness and credibility of the topic.

Fantasy?

Regardless of the source, it seems a pretty accurate take on human nature.

(You do know why there are no muslims in the Star Trek universe, don't you?)

Yes, Star Trek: Deep Space nine is a fantasy.

It is an accurate take on human nature... a take which could be found in many other quotes taken from actual humans or actual human history or actual human accounts of disasters involving humans.
