Washington's Katie Walker weds Archduke Imre of Austria
Washington Post ^ | 09/11/2012 | Roxanne Roberts, Amy Argetsinger

Save for the parade of stupendous hats, there was little to alert passersby to the royal wedding Saturday morning in downtown Washington.

The bride: Katie Walker, 26, a Cincinnati native who until recently was communications director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.

The groom: Archduke Imre of Austria, also 26, great-grandson of Charles, the last ruler of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

Right now you’re thinking, “Wow. How’d she find an archduke?” Well, by going to church. Ken Wolfe, a friend of the bride who sang in the Gregorian chant group at her wedding, tells us the couple met two years ago at Chinatown’s St. Mary Mother of God, at a Mass in honor of the emperor, beatified by Pope John Paul II for his attempts to end World War I. Imre returned to Washington for an internship last summer at the conservative-libertarian Atlas Network. In December, they announced their engagement.

About 350 guests witnessed the wedding Saturday back at the parish where they met, a traditional Latin Mass with Bishop Paul Loverde of Arlington in attendance.

Walker seems to fit the mold of the modern princess-by-marriage: a career of her own, a natural with advocacy (she has been active in antiabortion circles) and fantastic hair. The groom may not have a throne to aspire to, but he does have an impressive pedigree — cousins from the Luxembourg and Liechtenstein monarchies were among the guests...

This is a pet peeve of mine, but Austria has no archdukes. The monarchy, and royal titles, were abolished long ago. Why do so many people continue to play pretend with all those royal titles?

This Imre fellow is no more an Austrian archduke than Elizebeth II is queen of the United States?

Yeah... but we had The Duke.

He sure could kick a$$!

Love traditional Latin Masses. They are exquisite in every way.

You're correct. He's an Erzherzog, as opposed to his uncle the GroBherzog.

I might agree with you, except for the fact that the Habsburgs remain a Christian witness to secular Europe.

The family motto is: “Bella gerant alii, tu, felix Austria, nube!” which means, “Let others wage wars, but you, happy Austria, marry!”

Nice. What a great story. Found each other in church. Not a bad place to find a spouse. I wish them all the luck in the world.

Presumably the happy couple will not be honeymooning in Sarajevo.

What a beautiful young couple. So glad this boy chose a girl who has faith, intelligence, and character, not just beauty. Bless them; may they continue to be a witness for Christ, for their Church, and for life.

Well, Great Uncle Franz Ferdinand didn't take his bride to Sarajevo for their honeymoon either.

Great Uncle Maximilian built a villa overlooking the Adriatic at Trieste--lovely location.

Bless this lovely couple.

I have visited both Austria and Hungary and they are beautiful beyond Imagination.

I pray the Duke and Duchess help the Children in those countries not go the way of Russia (or the USA) in terms of Abortion.

You have to think in the way of a European Royalist.

England was a Republic from 1649 to 1660, but then restored its monarchy. Spain restored its Monarchy in the 1970s. The Netherlands was a Republic for Centuries until after the Napoleonic Wars, then it became a Monarchist State.

Montenegro and Serbia are both on the verge of Restoring their Monarchs.

So in many Royal houses, especially the Hapsburgs, they keep up their titles should they return to power in their countries.
