DETROIT (WJBK) - Will the mayor please stand up and say something?
I'm talking about the pathetic spectacle I witnessed Thursday night at an east-side church.
Mayor Dave Bing held a town hall meeting, not because he wanted to but because he was required to by law.
The church was filled with a posse of cops and laid-off city workers and citizens afraid to walk their own blocks. They let Hizzoner have it, raining down on him with an avalanche of ridicule and humiliation, stuff I am not allowed to repeat here.
It must have been a heavy load because the mayor couldn't bring himself to stand -- not even once -- to address the people.
He was a gray man in a gray suit. A shifty-eyed squirrel cornered by a clowder of cats. He was feeble.
Imagine other mayors in times of hardship -- Coleman Young, Rudy Giuliani, even Rahm Emanuel in Chicago -- trying to hide behind their nameplates.
Bing, as is his custom, had nothing to offer a city in need of hope. The former NBA star was an empty pair of high-tops.

They got what they voted for ... a basketball player and got an elbow shot to the chin! They can cry foul but the referees are union and didn’t see it.
Bing got off to a good start but the rest of the city is so corrupt that he’s thrown up his hands and given up.
They need the emergency manager in there but they’re fighting Lansing every step of the way.
LeDuff is former NY Times and gave kudos to Muslims on 9/11, here on Fox2Detroit.
He is a slime. He may be right once in a while but he continually pushes the “look how bad the city has gotten” while ignoring that it was his pals that made it this way. He screams that there are no ambulances after a report of someone calling 9/11 for transport with a sprained knee. Maybe the problem is all the non-life threatening calls, there pal.
He only challenges the truth in order to come to the lib conclusion.

I think the larger thing the Country and citizens should take away from all this is: these guys are elected officials. We can throw these guys out. Yet, people keep reelecting them because they have a D or R after name.
How much of a difference is there really between all these Rs and Ds if the Country is headed off the cliff. One is going the same direction at 60 MPH while the other is going 90 MPH.
