Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) came out in opposition to Mitt Romney's controversial remarks on the "47 percent."
Brown, who has been distancing himself from elements of the Republican Party, joins GOP Senate candidate in Connecticut Linda McMahon in coming out against the statements.
"That’s not the way I view the world. As someone who grew up in tough circumstances, I know that being on public assistance is not a spot that anyone wants to be in. Too many people today who want to work are being forced into public assistance for lack of jobs," he said in an email to The Hill.
Brown said that the large volume of Americans receiving public assistance and the growth in the food stamp program are part of the reasons he's running for Senate, as Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren's policies would lead to hundreds of thousands of lost jobs.

I supported Brown when he distanced himself from Akin (I understand the politics of Massachusetts). But this is ridiculous. He’s just pandering now.

Senator Scott Brown is too busy with his campaign to stop and pay attention to what Romney actually said.
Here is part of what Mitt said:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax….”
It is true that of the 47% of Americans who paid no Federal Income Tax, that 60% did pay the Social Security tax. There are those who will see this as an error in Mitt’s statement. However, those who pay into Social Security most likely will get that “tax” paid back to them. There are some who will get that “tax” paid back and much more.
Also, that 47% are paying other taxes—lots of taxes. Even though they are paying these taxes, many who don’t pay the federal income tax are not worried about the taxation efforts of the Obama Administraton if the election goes to Obama. Romney was correct in his statement that these people “believe the government has a responsibility to care for them” and will vote for Obama.
The media is spinning Romney’s words to confuse the voter.
Senator Brown's focus is the same as Romney's: we need to get the economy growing again, so that the people on public assistance can get jobs.
Poor Brown, he is a pathetic whore.

In deep blue territory, all that matters are the downticket elections. Hold your nose and pull the lever for Brown. Unless you can come up with a way for MA to elect a real conservative, he’s all you’re going to get.

This is why the dems are more successful electorally. They stand and fall together. Repubs, on the other hand, at the first sign of trouble break off, run for the hills, and go into self-preservation mode... every. damned. time.

Romney was neither my first or second choice for candidste, but any (R) who would dump on him during a 'Rat political mugging needs to change his affiliation.
Bovine squat. Many do. Not all, but a lot. Romney somewhat overstated it when he said anyone who gets money from the government is automatically Democrat. 10% of the population are on Social Security, and worked all their life to get it. A lot of them are conservatives, and understand it won't be there unless we fix it. And a lot of people on unemployment would rather have a job. But just because Romney overstated it is no reason for Brown to overstate the opposite.
I actually was kind of hoping he’d lose until Snowe retired. We’ll lose a seat there, and we can’t afford to lose two. Plus, with Snowe gone, we have room to plug Brown into that NE RINO spot...so it is a net gain within the caucus.
I actually expect Brown may be that rare case that gets a little better AFTER the election anyway. He’ll have six years until reelection, and assuming Romney’s in the White House, he’ll sign on to a lot of his buddy’s economic plan.
Just freakin’ unbelievable, Mr Brown. Why don’t you just shut up if you really don’t understand what Romney was saying? Did you really not get it?
