Gallup: Only 8% of Americans Have 'Great Deal' of Trust in News Media

(CNSNews.com) -Only 8 percent of Americans say they have a "great deal" of trust in the news media, according to a new Gallup poll.

That is down from 11 percent a year ago and is a record low for the 40 years that Gallup has been polling on the question.

See Gallup's analysis of the survey here.

Since 1972, Gallup has periodically asked respondents: “In general, how much trust and confidence do you have in the mass media--such as newspapers, T.V. and radio--when it comes to reporting the news fully, accurately, and fairly--a great deal, a fair amount, not very much, or none at all?

In the latest survey, conducted Sept. 6-9, in addition to the 8 percent who said they had a “great deal” of trust and confidence in the media another 32 percent said they had a “fair amount” of trust. This combined 40 percent who were generally trustful of the media was also the lowest percentage ever.

8%? Still? After all they’ve done? I hope those 8% don’t drive cars or operate heavy machinery.

Snake oil salesmen used to have at least 15% of the public hoodwinked, so this is encouraging. However, these 8% should be kept in a secluded area for their own safety.

‘Subversion’ is a good description. The mendacious MSM is nothing short of treacherous and is undermining the foundations of our democracy.

I think I spotted one of those 8 per-centers last year.

It was a cold day and he was putting his bicycle - which was sporting all kinds of Anti Big Oil protest signs - into the bike rack on the front of a City Bus.

Who are these eight percent, probably not even newscasters?

This is approarching two sigmas of unusual behavior.

Pretty much the size of the NPR audience and those involved in “education”.

They mean well, in California many are millionaire equivalents, at least at the household level and protective of their deal.

As long as the media will do nothing to make them look bad, life is good.

Don’t look for this poll to be reported in the MSM. Never gonna happen.

I’m guessing that most of that 8% work for the news media.

I don’t think so. That’s a guy who believes something and lives it. That kind of conviction is rare in modern America. The 8 percenters are the ones with anti big oil stickers on their SUV.

8%? This is proof that Gallup poll is skewed.

More than 8% don’t even know what state the live in.

It used to be I believed about half of what the media would report, now it’s less than zero. Though actually the only news source I trust is Fox News but even then I’m still wary of what I see.
