I'm getting ready to buy my first gun. I'm interested in Sig SP2022 or Glock 19 4g or 3G or others you may suggest. I'm 50ish, 6 footish, and about 220lbs. I intend to go for concealed carry.

Which ever weapon you can shoot the best and feel comfortable with. It is not another persons place to say what someone else should carry. Go to local range, try several models and see which one you like the best. I would say the caliber isn’t the most important ( min 9mm), shot placement control and mental processing are what matters most in conceal carry. Make sure you go through classes and drills and practice on a regular basis.

Really look at the Springfield XD. Lighter, more accurate in my hands. But go shoot several and get the one that works well for you. Also, for c/c, a 9mm is sufficient. You will be at close quarters, and even a .22 will do the job at that range.

Sig is as good as you can get, next would be a Spring Field Armory XD....

Stay away from 9mil, they lack the serious knock down power.

Go with nothing less than 40cal. 45 is better.

I suggest neither...have a hard look at the Sig P229 in .40 S&W.
Very good pistol and you can buy a drop-in barrel that will allow you to also shoot the 357Sig round.
Fun round to target shoot.

I have carried both. Go with the Sig. Even better would be to buy them both.

I’ve owned three SIGs and four Glocks.
They’re both fine weapons, so your ability to shoot either is what matters.

Don’t let the caliber-junkies influence you. A 9mm is within 5% of “one shot stop” statistics of the .45ACP.

Smith&Wesson makes excelent wheel guns. However their semi-auto’s just have so dang many moving parts. They just seem too complicated for everyday field/combat use.

Baretta Nano...if you must have a easily concealed carry 9mm, please investigate this gun.

If size is no real object - Browning High Power. It works.

Before you buy a Sig, check out CZ. You’ll have a weapon of virtually the same quality with a whole lot of money left over for ammo and accessories.

Did you look at the Springfield XDS? It is so small I must double check to see if I picked up my Taurus PT709 or the XDS. It is rumored to be coming out in a 9mm. One thing, ammo is so expensive I prefer to carry a 9mm because I can shoot with it every couple of weeks, fire off a hundred rounds, no worries. I am pretty tiny so I must have a tiny gun to conceal. My husbands Glock 19 is a great range gun, just too big for my hands after about fifty rounds. The Glock 26 & 36 are on my list right after the XDS in a 9mm.

“Don’t let the caliber junkies-influence you”

I agree. If that is going to be the criteria why mess around? My Sig-p556 fits very nicely in a tennis racket case..

Second everything said by drbuzzard.

What you buy comes down to what feels comfortable to your grip when in use. Your physical size should not be an issue for .40 cals which my stable is mostly full of and the P226 is my favorite. Not only for trigger, but for endurance in sand, dirt and muck. The P226 is kinda big to lug around, but I am a bigger guy so it hides well under loose clothes or 511 gear.

Like the .45s and have a handful of those in 1911 frames, the Kimber Ultra Pro Carry II really carries nice.

Good luck

I have a 3G Glock 19.

Love it. Can't comment on the others because I don't own either of them.

As the old saw goes: "Opinions are like a$$holes....everyone has one."

I'm obviously an a$$hole, too, because here's mine (opinion).....

I'm both a fan of 1911's (including Officer's Model) and .45 ACP, B-U-T my most favorite combo for carry and the range is a 1911 in .38 Super. (1) I have more control getting back on target after firing a round of Super. Double-taps are accurate and quick. (2) Super is "smooth" to shoot.... comfortable and minimal recoil straight back, without the big muzzle jump....

Not as loud.

Plus, Colt makes the conversion kits that can be swapped out in less than 90 seconds from .45 and Super to .22 LR.....think Gluck makes a conversion kit, also.

I'm a 'big-boy', too.....6'2" @ 220 lbs., so neither 1911 carry weight nor recoil is a major problem.

If you’re not a real “gun guy” and willing to clean and take ‘good” care of the weapon stick with a revolver. They need little care, fire all the time, every time. eg; S&W 638,S&W 340 PD

I currently have a P-38 (9mm) which I use on the range and for home defense, but I have been looking for something smaller for my first CC weapon. After a lot of research, the gun I have zeroed in on is the XDS.

If the choice is Sig or Glock, hands down I would go for the Sig. If it's good for my special forces son in law, it's good. OTOH, everyone is different. Why not go to a gun range, rent a couple of pistols and try them out? I've owned some dozen or so different pistols in the past and was an expert shooter on the 45 and M16 and qualified frequently on the Beretta 9mm while in the Coast Guard. I've worked with quite a few people who had difficulty qualifying on the range. Comfort with a pistol comes gradually. If you have never shot before, I'd say start off with a 22 target pistol until you have the sight and trigger pull skills down pat. Learn to breath right! Then move up to .38 maybe, 9mm, etc. Shorter barrels last. If you just want something in night stand in case o fa break in, a revolver is good unless you are willing to clean and practice with a semi frequently. Currently I am happy with my Taurus 809 and am looking for a smaller version of my 4inch to carry. Outstanding safety features on this model. Just one guys opinion, every one has their favorites.Heck, there's still people out there buying Chevys.

It is not just the gun, it is the ammo you are shooting. Here is an article of 100 different rounds, calibers, penetration and expansion. I did not opt for a .45, I went with a 9mm Taurus 709 and Hornady critical defense.
