Didn’t the democrats use this video as a prop during their convention?

“They just happened to be rolling tape and a military jet does a head on, very low pass? Don't think so.”

I read somewhere that in Russia the insurance companies make all commercial vehicles have dash cameras because of rampant fraud.

Yes, took a gander at some F-111 photos to refresh my memory, and it is possible. (Just couldn’t find any painted copper/bronze.) The most remarkable thing, other than how close and slow it was flying, was the spacious canopy which allowed me a good view of the men inside. The F-111 definitely mirrors the shape I remember, and it also is the right size.

30 years ago when they were installing the low ground terrain hugging radar and flight controls to B-52s I was driving through a remote area of the Flint Hills in southern Kansas.

All of a sudden there was a loud boom of sound and a B-52 appeared right above me in my windshield and another boom and shockwave as it disappeared in the same instant. Due to the size and how low it was, it virtually blocked the whole sky above me. I almost drove off the small two lane I was on and actually pulled over to settle myself down as it was such a shock.

You have my respect simply for driving a fully loaded log truck.
In the sixties I used to encounter logging trucks in the Yosemite area, some on the road and others well off if it. White knuckle stuff back then and I doubt it's too much different today.

Also back a few years it wasn't at all rare to be buzzed by a training mission with a couple of minutes to spare.

Oh, yeah, I understand the power of the B-52. I've had plenty of brushes with those magnificent beasts out at Carswell AFB in Forth Worth. One of the most awesome experiences you can have with your clothes on is close range B-52 spotting.

For old time's sake here's a photo:

Not a personal experience with a jet, but I live close to a privare airstrip on the other side of my street. Most of houses across the street have airplanes, and the strip is inbetween their houses and houses on a street one over. Several years ago some guy bought a house located right at the foot of the airstrip. Just across the road from the end of the strip.

Well, naturally when the wind dictates, the planes descend right over the guys house on their landing approach. One time one of the planes apparently came a little too close to his house. The guy ran out of his house like a deranged hornet. He saw where the plane landed and what hangar it taxied towards. He ran over to the house, and knocked on the door.

When the owner, the pilot of the plane, answered, he found himself face to face with the outraged buzzee who was screaming into his face about buzzing his house. Eventually the argument came to blows, and the county cops had to come out and haul the outraged buzzee off to the slammer. The irony is, the guy whose house got buzzed could see where the airstrip was when he bought his house. It's like sticking your finger in a wasp's nest and being surprised when you get stung.

Lots of Russian drivers have on-board video to reduce the risk of insurance fraud "accidents."

You can find plenty, funny, vids of the same on YouTube.

Russian insurance companies require dash cams due to excessive fraud

FWIW, I did some research a few weeks ago and this one looks like a good gadget to buy. I want one not exactly for insurance purposes, though that would be useful too, but largely to capture all kinds of interesting events that we all see now and then but can't take a photo of because we are busy driving. Saving one's behind is just an additional benefit when all you have is your word against someone else's. Some recorders, those that are designed specifically to capture accidents, have two cameras, GPS, and acceleration sensors.

The $100 is a small price to pay for a simple gadget that records in HD for hours and automatically overwrites the oldest recording. The only catch is that menus "out of the box" default to Russian - apparently because the majority of the market is in Russia. But people managed to find the right menu item to switch to English.

I live in apartment in downtown Los Angeles...everytime some idiot decides to run from the cops they get their helicopters with these huge spotlights and fly so low, I swear it sounds like their going to land on my balcony....it literally shakes the windows.

Actually it was my Uncle driving that particular occasion. I drove them a little when I was younger, but life took me in another direction.

White knuckle is when you have 100,000 pounds of hardwood 3 feet over the rack (with a total legal weight being 80,000) and you are going down an iced hill in the woods and the tire chains will not do squat.

It ages you quick ;)

Similar to an experience I had as a kid. I was riding with my mom in the Texas Hill COuntry when an F-4 shot across the road at treetop level. The sucker came out of nowhere and we didn’t hear the Phantom until it was directly over the road in front of us.
