Some car manufacturers are putting money into R&D in developing a power converter to convert heat from a car's Catalytic converter to electricity with Thermal Electric generators. Auto Exhaust T.E.G.s.
At least 1/3 of the potential energy output that could be used from a gallon of gasoline is wasted through the automobile's exhaust system..... another 1/3 of that wasted energy is through the coolant system, i.e. radiator.

I didn't check to see how much, but, it's way above my paid grade...
It should give people some more creative ideas before they send that old truck, or van, or flatbed truck to the junkyard.
A flatbed ISZU NQR would be perfect for that.

I have a classic 1978 Travco and it has provided 35,000 of delightful travel to such places as the Skyline Drive to dirt roads leading to a friends home in the Panhandle where he was divinf gor old growth sinker logs.

I used a Mercedes 300TDT for a toad. I just let it idle while pulling it and the trannie never gave me the first bit of grief in those 35,000 miles.

Having managed to control my DIY urge to mor a SS GMC bus, trust me when I say an existing RV will be less expensive and allow you to enjoy RV life rather than spend time and money on a project which will most likely not bring any where what you put into it.

Selling an older RV can allow recovery of much of the original price you paid for it

When I was about 14 I would camp out at the lake most of the summer by myself. I slept under a lean too and was very comfortable. When I was 16 dad had built bunks in his F-100 with a camper cover. We took a month long trip from East Tennessee to Fairbanks, Alaska and back. We also made a side trip to Anchorage and over to Dawson City. Most nights we slept in the back of the truck. It really wasn't bad. You got to see a lot of wildlife you normally would not have otherwise seen.

When I was in the Navy I had a camper cover on my pick up and a bunk in it. When we were in port I slept either out in the parking lot across from the piers or headed out of town to a park.

Those needing some ideas on cutting cost here's one. National Forest often let you camp away from campgrounds. But if you want a shower etc and you are age 62 or medically disabled you can get a Golden Passport which gives you 50% off on camping fees on any federal land that has campgrounds.

Be careful how you heat the camper if in the winter. For example a catalytic heater isn't a real good idea unless you leave ample ventilation so it has enough oxygen to burn properly. If it doesn't it will simply use yours instead.

Box trucks by Ford are about $3000 around here. Not new ones of course but in the 1990s era and a box truck would be very fix up able in a pinch. I think.

I have seen older Rvs on Craigslist dirt cheap down in Florida, and Az. I’m talking about under $3k and less for a full sized RV, running engine and all.
And a smart person can build a camper trailer without too much of a hassle.

Problem is there are too many people who have lost the will to even fight, to succeed, to strive and to overcome an obstacle. A nationwide disease of laziness is being broadcasted all across America.

Its time to fight, its really time to seriously consider what it requires to stand up against all the greed, control, BS, lies and the misguided direction our current leadership is taking, and to lay down the rules of any new leadership.
