National Review Online, New York Sun ^ | Oct 14, 2012 | Conrat Black

The mighty American star system has elevated and demoted thousands of people over the 236 years since the propagandistic arts were first torqued up in the Declaration of Independence. But the supreme champion of the American personality cult has been Abraham Lincoln.

You do know you’ve mixed up Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln with her aunt, also named Nancy Hanks. She was Dennis Hanks mother, and he’s Abe’s cousin.

The one thing that Lincoln lovers cannot deny, is that Lincoln settled the question as to whether we would we be collection of sovereign states with a weak central government or a strong central (federal) government where states were considered to be weak, geopolitical subsets answering to their masters in Washington. Once that was settled, the slide down the slippery slope to socialism/communism has grown increasingly faster with each passing year.

Thanks, Abe.

If you say so.

As David Herbert Donald pointed out, for generations prior to Lincoln’s birth the Hanks family named its men James or John, and its women Polly, Nancy, or Lucy. Lincoln’s mother was one of 8 Nancy Hanks born during the 1780’s.

That’s only “settled” in the brains of lost cause losers.

I don't doubt that at all.

Well, color me surprised. I didn’t think you went for common sense, but glad to know I was wrong.

You are wrong. Common sense and your posts don't seem to have much of a connection. But hey, I'm not going to get between you and your rants. I'm not foolish enough to think that I could change a mind as tighly closed as your's is.

Glad I’m not one of those. But even they are losers for a reason — even if it is wrong-headed — rather than being just a loser with no ability to rebut comments made by others, thereby reduced to making little baby comments of no substance or bearing.

Good job. Thanks for helping MY cause.

I think the Confederate supporters are miffed that Lincoln emerged in the stratosphere of greatness while Jefferson Davis still dwells in the depths of mediocrity.

Lee'sGhost: "Lincoln settled the question as to whether we would we be collection of sovereign states with a weak central government or a strong central (federal) government where states were considered to be weak..."

Actually, Lincoln did nothing more than respond effectively to the Confederacy's formal declaration of war on the United States (May 6, 1981), by defeating their rebellion.

Nearly all the rest is the responsibility of "Progressives" beginning around 100 years ago.

Nope. Wrong again. Started in 1861 when Lincoln and the northern states refused to allow free men in free states leave the union of their own free will. This made federal government supreme and let us to the point where we now have to deal with Marxist like Obama. Of course, if the CSA had prevailed, the southern states would be functioning under the type of government envision by our founding fathers and the north would be still be dealing with people like Obama...or worse.

You really do have quite an imagination.

And firmly in the camp of the progressives was the Jim Crow south.

Lee'sGhost: "Started in 1861 when Lincoln and the northern states refused to allow free men in free states leave the union of their own free will."

False again.
The Civil War started in 1861 when the Confederacy, having first seceded in peace, of its own free will, then using unlawful threats of violence demanded immediate surrender of Federal properties, assaulted Fort Sumter and took it by force of arms (April 14, 1861), the Confederacy soon formally declared war on the United States (May 6, 1861).

No invasion forces were sent into the Confederacy until after it started & formally declared war on the United States.
