A blogger who spent one year following all of the Bible’s instructions for women, from making her own clothes to 'submitting' to her husband, has now written a book about her experience.

Rachel Held Evans’ book, A Year of Biblical Womanhood, chronicles her 12 month attempt to obey the Bible's commandments for women.

The Bible gives hundreds of rules for women to follow, both explicit and implied, in the Old Testament and the New.

This woman is being deliberately obtuse - what she's doing has nothing to do with Christianity.

But I'm sure its an entertaining book.

What man can argue with the wisdom of the bible:

During the days she was menstruating over the course of the year, the Tennessee-based writer, 31, a Christian who describes herself as 'liberated', stayed home from church, carried around a seat cushion to avoid sitting on chairs outside her home, abstained from sex and touching her husband, grew her hair out and slept in a tent.

Did she drag the stove out in the yard that time of the month or did she pre-prepare the meals for her “master”??

Um... Many Old Testament rules were dropped for the New Testament.

Or did she also sacrifice animals?

Guess you’ll have to buy the book to find out.

I am highly suspicious of the author's motives here. However, — again — Old Testament law was for ancient Israel. It was for their benefit and to focus their faith on the future Savior. Once the Savior came, the New Testament superseded the “law”. Did she sacrifice animals too? Or is this really just an attempt to try and discredit Judasim and Christianity?

while the story was interesting, the posts were very amusing, every heard of Pascal’s wager? its safer to believe and be wrong than to not to believe and be wrong.

She forgot the part about replacing the old law with the new.

If you’re going to claim to “follow the instructions”, then you have to pay attention when the instructions say, “Don’t do that anymore”.

You have to grant that nobody is ever particularly clear what parts of the Old Testament can be safely ignored and what parts result in you going straight to Hell if you ignore them.

Might have been nice if a "list of changes and revisions" like in a military doctrine manual, was issued along with the New Testament.

I’m not here to argue over shell fish.

However, I always saw the rule of removing the woman while having her period as having interesting side effects.

Of course there is the peace it brings to a married couple when the woman’s hormones can create turmoil. Then there is the time the woman has to herself away from daily responsibilities. I imagine that every modern woman would be grateful if they had a mandatory time out once every 4 weeks.

Finally, there is the natural consequence of the man and the woman’s children of having to take over the woman’s tasks. This would make for a well rounded family.

New Testament - Grace

During the year, she learned to “sew” and “cook.” Ooh, how demeaning.

My husband could attest to that...he just removes himself to the basement for a couple of days, LOL.

Beliefs belong in church.

True, but the Holy Spirit offers us wisdom and the overall principle in the New Testament is that all things are “legal” in Christ but not all things are worthwhile.

The Law of the Old Testament was to prove, in essence, that Man could never approach the holiness of God - that even something as seemingly simple as the Ten Commandments was impossible to keep without ever violating. Then Jesus blew that out of the water by throwing in things like lust and hate. The only way to approach God’s holiness is by grace through faith in Christ’s redeeming power.

Therefore, there were no longer dietary laws or laws against intermarriage or demands for circumcision, only to believe in Christ and receive His free gift of salvation then, out of reverence, seek His will, do good and not provide a stumbling block for others.

As for this woman, all she really needed to do was to recognize that Christ is the head of His church and that her husband is the head of their household and that the Christian husband is subjected to Christ.

For the military-minded, there is a chain-of command: Father-Son-Church-Husbands-Wives-Children. When each responds to those lower than them out of love and responds to each above their rank with obedience, everything works superbly.

To paraphase a famous quotation ...

So many religions, so little time.
