Most people don’t know it, but the base for all the statin drugs was actually discovered in red-yeast rice.

In other words, statin drugs are naturally occurring substances.

I think the FDA banned imports of red yeast rice IF the concentration of the substance in question was above a certain limit, so most red yeast rice should be non or only minimally effective compared to a scrip for one of the statins.

I will say once again, BE CAREFUL!!

Yes, I spit it out too tho I guess salty water is not technically dangerous. I always brush my teeth first then do the gargle after in case I might have scratched a gum just enough to let germs in.

I figure swishing the hot salty water around would stop that at least for a while.

Maybe it’s the state you live in.

Kentucky now (idiots) limits filling more than 3 months supply at one time unless the doctor writes it that you can fill the full year, or as much as you want up to a year.

However, Walgreens told me I could come back in every week if I wanted to. I just can’t get over 3 months *at one time*.

That said, I have to pay non insurance negotiated prices for the drugs because insurance pricing will not apply to getting more than 30 days. Too bad. I found that Costco has my heart meds priced lower without insurance than anywhere else anyway.

As far as thyroid goes (I use synthroid brand, not generic), I bought the $20 (maybe $25) prescription club card at Walgreens and get the stuff at a very reasonable price without insurance. I bought a year’s supply of it and keep it rotated.

Anyway, you need to carefully question a pharmacist about the law where you live. Usually, it is only a problem getting more if you are buying with insurance. It’s not the law per se.

I got a huge drop in cholesterol using red yeast rice and flax seed oil. But I quit the red yeast rice because I don’t like statins. Same drawbacks apply regardless of using it or prescription statins.

had a very bad tooth abscess that had to go untreated for almost a week convinced me that antibiotics for use in a collapse situation were an important part of my preps.

Oil of oregano will kill the pain and works against infections. Works every time.
Just try it... if you can stand the initial burning sensation in your mouth. It stings.
But that is okay as you can just rinse with cold water and swallow it. It has very strong antibacterial properties and is safe to swallow.

I get mine from Countryside Pet Supply. They’re part of the Newegg.com online store. . . .

I have one child that is allergic to penicillin. Thankfully, he is rarely sick. Any thoughts on what to keep on hand for him in a SHTF scenario? I am completely ignorant on natural/alternative medications. Any book recommendations? Any advice? Thanks in advance from a newbie yet trying to quickly catch up prepper.

I never recommend Colloidal Silver as it has the potential of poisoning those who take it improperly. Silver is a heavy metal and the ingestion of any heavy metal is something to avoid.

I do need some info on this. A friend gave me a bottle of “bio-active silver hydrosol” for an ear infection.

I couldnt figure out the ingredients or how to use the stuff from the box, so it just sits there. She said I should put it in my ear, but, I’m just not going to, I have no idea what it is good for.

Is there any reason I should keep it?

That depends on the meds.

Yeah, that's true. Usually though we're talking about "controlled substances" that are limited that way. Xanax for example. Darvon and compounds containing it. Things like that.

I've not run into that problem with heart meds, thyroid, or basic BP.

It helps that I have a a couple of doctors that see the wisdom of being prepared and have confidence that I have enough sense not to harm myself.

A lot of people are allergic to sulfa drugs too.

I used to work with a guy who lost a baby because the Dr. prescribed sulfa. She told them to give it to the baby in a bottle of milk.

The Baby held on for a month then according to his Dad, just finally gave up.

You should keep a bottle of Everclear around for the occasional abcessed tooth. I was told I needed 3 root canals and a couple teeth pulled last February. About once a week I get a tiny shot of grain alcohol and swish it around in my mouth until it hurts. (You really probably don’t want to swallow that stuff, especially straight up!) Haven’t had anymore toothaches.

And of no help to me, for sure.

No offense.

I guess if you know you are not allergic to sulfa then you don’t need to worry, but some people are.
