Yoko Ono: A Reconsideration - How I Learned To Love Yoko
NY Times ^ | Published: October 19, 2012 | By LISA CARVER

Yoko Ono is not pretty, she is not easy, her paintings aren’t recognizable, her voice is not melodious, her films are without plot and her Happenings make no sense... Most of her stuff is not even there. This is why I love her. This is why we need her. We have too much stuff already. It clutters our view, inward and outward.

We need more impossible in our culture.... We already have a billion lovely things and a million amazing artists who have honed their talent and have lorded it above us. People who have achieved the highest of the possible...

Even other artists can’t figure out Ono or accept her as legit, nor can she obey the club rules. Her stuff is all wrong....

There are two schools of art. One is what is made beautiful by the artist; the other is to make way for the viewer to see or feel what is already beautiful....

So . . . if I love her so much, why does this little old lady still make me so uncomfortable?

...Even now, at the most acceptable point her career or private life has ever reached in our moralistic and artistically anorexic society, who is embracing her? Courtney Love and Lady Gaga. And those women seem nuts. They’re extreme. We all love to watch what they do next, but who really likes them? And while they catfight then make up and champion or co-opt other famous ladies, I never get the feeling they like anyone either...

...That is the ultimate feminism: Yoko Ono doesn’t need us to like her. She doesn’t care.

Then sometimes I think she does care.

Oh, Yoko, you trouble me so.

Is this supposed to be a parody of clueless leftist writing, or was it unintentional?

Could the writer possibly be more incoherent?

She sums up life living with a Naked Emperor in the White Hut.

The scary thing about Joko is that she had a 4 year degree in music before she met Lennon. I assume she learned enough to pass so what happened? It’s like she ignored everything she was taught.

Elitist po-mo posturing. If you can’t appreciate things that aren’t even there, you must be some provincial dolt lacking the finely honed esthetic of your urban betters.

You said it. Only libs encased in their inpenetrable thought bubbles think and say stupid things like this. Yoko wasn’t the first golddigging leech to fasten herself to a rich fool, and she won’t be the last. But people should recognize for what she is.

Dennis Leary said it best:

“What kind of country is this where John Lennon gets six bullets in the chest, and Yoko is standing right next to him and not one f’ing bullet? Explain THAT to me!”

Both the Beatles and the Stones did amazing stuff in their early years. One of the Beatles’ very best works was “And Your Bird Can Sing”,which was a not so subtle sendup of Jagger, whose “bird” could,in fact, sing. As great as the song is the fact remains that Jagger brought home Marianne Faithful,a stunningly beautiful and somewhat talented “bird” and Lennon brought home Yoko.Game, set and match to Jagger...at least when it comes to “birds”.
