A vessel with a nine-person crew and 700 tons of gold ore onboard has gone missing in stormy seas off Russia's Pacific Coast.

The ship sent a distress call on Sunday as it was sailing from the coastal town of Neran to Feklistov Island in the Sea of Okhotsk.

Polymetal's spokesman on Monday would not estimate the value of the cargo.

It's worth less than the ship's crew, even in Russia. Probably worth considerably less than the vessel itself. It's just ore.

This sounds rather grim. How often does a 'missing' ship turn up above water?

700 tons of good ore yields about 5 grams of gold per ton, or 120 troy oz. At spot prices, this is around $100K minus expenses. Not really a major story here except for the families of the crew.

and contains only a small percentage of the precious metal.

How small? 10% = $3.47 billion, but 0.01% = $3.47 million.

Gold ore is the material from which gold is extracted ...

How stupid do they believe their readers to be if they have to clarify this issue?

Thank you. When I saw “ore” in the headline, I immediately did a *shrug* and “WF cares”, and was going to check the math myself.

700 tons of ore? That translates into what...28-36 grams of gold?

Posting was slow and.

Was responding that Pops is the reason that went bust in the first sean digging that hole 70 feet straight down and that Dakota Fred proved Todds theory of the pay strak right in season 2.

I loved it when Todd’s crew jumped ship to work the new claim with Dave.
