Considering how much money is on the line I don’t blame Ferrari for trying. But it was investigated during the race and the Stewards made the call. I can’t imagine Charlie Whiting would be too keen on being overturned.
is that like the distinction between rape and rape rape?
.
You would think with all their technical telemetry wizardry that their timing & scoring would be able to show the location of the cars on the track when a caution is declared, and therefore whether or not a position change occurred in a caution sector. But hey, without the human element and uncertainty of outcome, why watch the race at all?
Vettel and Alonso should have a shootout race. I say Monaco....
A flashing yellow light is the traditional "yellow flag", but is superseded by a real-life marshal with a flag. A solid yellow is to signify a hazardous area (lots of water, debris, etc). Passing is allowed under solid yellow.
No marshal reported an incident to the FIA about Vettel's pass. Ferrari is said to have asked for a "clarification" by the FIA of a posted YT video of the lap 4 pass.
Such is racing, but I'd hate for the season to end like this. It's almost like a hanging chad syndrome! If all this had happened in real time (during the race) and Vettel penalized, resulting in Alonso winning the championship, I'd have been happy with that. I'm just glad it was an interesting season right down to the the last lap of the last race, whoever won!
Too late, the FIA already made the call. Too bad because a one race, winner take all would have been great!
It has emerged that the incident was not investigated during the race because a green flag was being waved at a marshals' post after Turn Three. Vettel only began his move after passing that flag.
"The incident wasn't reported to stewards in the first place because it didn't seem like there was a need to report it at the time," Norman Howell, the director of communications for the International Automobile Federation (FIA), said. "Now that Ferrari has sent us a letter asking for an explanation we will give it to them."
That means the move was viewed at the time as legitimate and so race control, which judges potential infringements, was not informed and the stewards did not become involved.
Good. The Championship was decided where it should be; on the track. Glad to see that the FIA thought this one is a no-brainer.
