I am trying to remove AVG antivirus program from my computer. I have gone to the control panel, remove programs, and clicked uninstall AVG2012. About half way through the uninstallation, the uninstall program simply stops. Any suggestions will be appreciated
I use CCleaner as well but there is a pro/paid version of it and that’s what I use. One of my first paying jobs after university was working for Cyberdefender (it’s a scam) and i discovered their registry cleaner was CCleaner without the patent.
That’s what I have and i got it free. Don’t remember the details but I don’t think I ever registered it and it’s been fine.
AS a related question for all, please recommend some trustworthy free antivirus, anti malware programs.

No, you uninstall it in safe mode.
I had nothing but bad experiences with AVG. It’s a virus unto its self.
I know I'll get roasted for this, but try Microsoft Security Essentials. I've used it for several years now, and its the best one I've ever used (including AVG, Norton, Avast, and others.
When Microsoft was just DOS it was great. Then Windows 3.1 was a real step down. After that things got worse and worse. But Windows 7 and its associated supporting software has been just fine. You MS haters should try them.
Just my 2¢. I’ve been into PCs since the the DOS days of the 8086. I’ve been a certified tech for over 15 years. I’ve tried them all and after dumping memory hogs like Norton and MacAffe and a half dozen dysfunctional anti-virus programs, I eventually beta-tested Sunbelt about a decade ago. I stayed with it when the company became Vipre.
An anti-virus program has to run in the background, resident in memory, but it does not have to be loaded with so many bells and whistles that it bogs down your system. Clamwin probably comes closest but antivirus on Windows systems is too critical to leave to freeware. Prevx is likely the best there is at this point in time.

Once I learned that Microsoft Security Essentials works best when there are no other security programs installed, I got rid of all the others. No problems since and it updates automatically.
It works great.
I used McAffee for three years and got several viruses in that time. I dumped McAfee finally and installed AVG and have not had a virus in 6 years.
