I am trying to remove AVG antivirus program from my computer. I have gone to the control panel, remove programs, and clicked uninstall AVG2012. About half way through the uninstallation, the uninstall program simply stops. Any suggestions will be appreciated
boot safe mode, google otherwise.
Booting in safe mode doesn’t get rid of anything, just delays the inevitable need to get rid of the original program.
I had to use Revo uninstaller to remove it.
You might try using an uninstaller.
I use a free program called Geek Uninstaller. It also collects the remnants that some uninstallers leave behind.

I had to do similar gyrations to get Norton off my machines. Anti-Virus programs tend to be resistant to easy removal, and I suppose that's for a reason....
How long does the uninstall stop for? Are you allowing it enough time? You can also try CCleaner.

Sometimes, the program’s uninstaller will become damaged and won’t run.
In those instances, one can usually re-install the program and then run the uninstall.

Not that I’m the person asking, However, Revo worked for me followed by CClearner ... all gone.
Google has some suggestions if you’ve not been there yet.
Revo Uninstaller is very good too. I have used it on many occasions.

IIRC, AVG is a complete scam. I wouldn’t go to their website and download anything there.
Revo Uninstaller Pro. Highly recommended and it’s free.
I know this is a silly question, but did you toggle the program off before you tried to uninstall? Just a thought.
There are a few good ones out there.
I don’t think the Pro version is free ... color me wrong if I’m wrong.
I use the one my ISP provides, Macafee. Works fine. Hard to tell if it’s really swell, in a way, because I do most of my FReeping on a MacBook. But I have several Windows machines here that my wife and I use (and Parallels/Windows on the Mac. Still need anti-virus for that).
