I don’t know much about the man, but in Hollywood where marriage is considered an accessory to be taken on and off at will, he leaves behind his widowed wife to whom he remained married for 58 years, through better and worse. I salute him for that. Rest in peace Mr. Hagman.

That's something I picked up as well. When I read a bio (or an obit) that's one thing I always subconsciously make note of. Now admittedly, there are some odious people who remain married for the long haul, but in general, I think it says a lot about a person's character, particularly as you point out, in Hollywood.

Hagman's marriage, ended only in death, outlasted the enviable marriages of George and Gracie Allen, Jimmy and Gloria Stewart and (Princess) Grace Kelly. I had to look it up, but Stiller and Meara were married the same year as Hagman (1954), which is impressive not only for Hollywood, but the general population as well.

Thanks for that info, was not aware. I also find it telling that the “Dallas” actors stayed good friends for so many years afterward. A great show that will always be remembered for “JR”.

(”Jeannie” who?)

He worked until the very end. I think people tuned into the new Dallas to see Bobby and JR

Linda Gray always bugged me. Something about her mouth being to wide or maybe it was just her dentures.

But I loved JR.

Al;l part of the Hollywood portrayal of the businessman as the villain. BIH. I liked his mom better - Peter Pan and Maria von Trapp.

I was surprised when J.R. showed up again in a new series. I thought he shot himself and Joel Grey escorted him to Hell in the final episode of the first series.

I laughed and laughed at his eyebrows. They even had their own twitter account. I would love to know if they styled them that way on purpose or if they were natural.

“When life hands you a challenge, just ask yourself WWJRD? — What Would J.R. Do? The octogenarian oil baron with the ten foot long eyebrows has the answer. He can torpedo a business deal, manipulate four different family members four different ways and smite an old enemy before breakfast. In the second week of “Dallas“, J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) surpassed “Mad Men’s” Roger Sterling as the most quotable character on television. Roger might disagree, but if he did, J.R. would just buy Sterling-Cooper-Draper out from under him. Study and memorize the top five pieces of wisdom that the Oracle of “Dallas” dropped this week.”
