Sure, they had spotlights when they made the treaty in (I think) the mid late 1840s. Give the elders credit for thinking ahead, at least when it comes to game. Who would have thought you’d need licenses back in the day.

We are getting close to a full moon, and it's pretty bright out there, if your eyes are adjusted.

Except for the fact that it's unlawful... I could see the practicality of a night hunt without a spotlight.

There's a reason for the historical phrase "Hunter's Moon".

I have hunted at night quite a few times but it is legal here for predators only, not game animals.
You can only hunt at night on private property with the owners permission.

Shining Jacks at night is a hoot.

I used to have an uncle in northern Michigan who enjoyed nighttime deer hunting......year round.
