Murphy’s first law hasn’t met this guy yet.

“If anything can go wrong, it will”.

Hopefully, hell retire from what he does before Murphy catches up to him.

Hope he stop climbing soon.

Nice kid, no ego.

Needs to find a lady to cool his jets.

My next scheduled climb without a rope, will be ....into bed.

It’s ok because it wasn’t RAPE rape.

But it WAS an assault of an African-American woman....

Climbers have always amazed me. I’ve spent a lot of time in Yosemite and watched them, but never felt the urge. This guy is so far beyond what even talented rope climbers do it is amazing. I hope we don’t hear a sad story about him one day. Maybe he’ll lose interest and have a good life running a rock gym somewhere.

As a former rock climber, I will make the most important observation:

There are no old free-climbers.

I did a little climbing in college. Nothing like this, nothing more than a couple hundred feet - with ropes, always. If memory serves, I needed those ropes at least twice.

Like the other guy they interviewed said, of all the people that have made a habit of doing big free climbs, about half of them are dead. Not good odds for retiring from the sport...

I did some climbing in my youth but nothing anywhere close to the difficult climbs this guy does.

Knew a guy who free climbed a 300’ 5.6 that we did on belay and thought he was insane. He took the same approach to riding a motorcycle. He was a better climber than rider and died in the saddle.

Half Life 2 eh? Well you might be interested then on how Black Mesa stole the Portal technology from Aperture Science to create the Resonance Cascade.

Oh well, I guess we will see how the two game's storylines connect in Portal 3 and Half Life 3

Interesting. Satan can give unusual powers: Preternatural; fear suppression, too.

Satan could also withdraw that “gift” 2499’ up a half mile climb.

I did make it through the video but not without plenty of autonomic fear responses of my own.

Yup.

Back in the day I owned a climbing school/guide service and was spending around 150 days a year on the rock. I free climbed a bit, mostly 5.6-5.8 and all under 100 feet.

Looking back on that time makes me realize that although freeing a wall is the ultimate expression of the sport, only a precious few should attempt the things that Hollold does... and even then, for a very short window of time.

Gabe Newell is the brains and force behind Valve, the makers of Half Life and Portal.

He owns the Company that makes them and directs their development course.

As such we have Half Life 2, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, Half Life 2 Episode 2.

You see a pattern here?

Unlike Leeroy Jenkins, Gabe Newell does Nothing Quickly.

Back in the day I owned a climbing school/guide service and was spending around 150 days a year on the rock. I free climbed a bit, mostly 5.6-5.8 and all under 100 feet.

Sounds about like me... But I got my notice slapping my hand into a monster bucket hold... I pinched down under the edge of it and was almost fully on it when the hold came off in my hand - I was almost a full rope off the ground (had I been using a rope), and I came SO CLOSE to peeling off... One second later and I would have been committed to that hold and I would have died right there.

And I had been up that wall a ton of times. I knew the route and could have climbed it blind... I had hung off of that chunk many, many times. Ever thereafter, I never went without protection. And redundant protection wherever possible.

Even with pro, there is no guarantee. The first time you ride the zipper is a time of great contemplation. ; )

Looking back on that time makes me realize that although freeing a wall is the ultimate expression of the sport, only a precious few should attempt the things that Hollold does... and even then, for a very short window of time.

While I feel ya, I don't agree. the rope is a drag, and stopping to place pro takes precious time, especially on a tight slab or an overhang - But if one does not use the rope to assist (only there to catch you) the experience can be much the same, and a whole lot safer. My own near miss taught me that anything less is sheer idiocy.

My son climbs. Mostly bouldering, which to me looks like people trying to find the hardest way up a rock. The kid is in amazing shape.

He climbed Half Dome (spelling?) in Yosemite. Thank the good Lord he had the sense to use ropes. I couldn’t imagine ever climbing that free style.

The sport of rock climbing and also bouldering is amazing. Except when my son does it. It now scares me like nobody’s business.

This guy on the clip must scare the living hell out of his mother.
