My sterno stove arrived from last week’s purchase, and it is neatly stowed with the multiple packs of sterno that I have always kept on hand the past 46 years. Still not sure what happened to the original, but maybe it will turn up one day.LOL. Also arrived was a little chain that serves as a saw to add to my auto emergency kit.
We recently pulled our son off of gluten, which means I have to completely redo my preps. All the oats are out and certified gluten free oats will be their replacement. I’ll keep the wheat but add buch more rice. All of my purchased canned goods now have to be scanned for gluten.We are already label readers as to avoid HFCS and MSG, so future purchases won’t be an issue.
On the gun topic, since I know most people on FR, and especially preppers, don't have enough guns, I'm looking at the Henry Survival Rifle. So far I like it. It's 0.22 caliber, 3.5 pounds, 16.5" long, reasonably waterproof (if floats when disassembled and stored in the stock), and it can be assembled in under two minutes. I don't actually have one, so don't put too much trust in my comments. Does anyone else have one and like/dislike it?
Be careful with Velveeta type cheese. Voice of experience. The date stamped is the absolute final last day to use.
Question 1: Is there any difference between Sterno cooking fueland gelling fuels?
Question 2: Is the two year shelf life hard and fast?
Hopefully “out” doesn’t mean out in the garbage, does it? Keep it and eat it yourselves or save it for trade with zombies.
My purchases this week are heirloom tomato and spinach seeds. Have been using seeds saved from past seasons but they didn’t hold up to the heat this summer so wanted to try something new. FYI, the stores here have said they won’t be getting their seeds packages in until Feb/Mar and some not until April. That’s ridiculous since tomatoes, peppers and cabbage need to be started at Christmas and most everything else expect okra needs to be in the ground in March. I am not associated with Victory Seeds and never ordered from them before but I got my order in 4 days so that’s a big thumbs up already. They specialize in heirlooms and most packages are about $2.
Thanks I’ll just do grilled cheese sammies and use it up and check out that canned cheese.
No I’ll probably give the oats to my cousin. It’s just one five gallon bucket and I know she can use it.
I’ve been eye-balling that one for a while, haven’t held one.
I can’t remember where, but I read that it will float when taken down but isn’t waterproof, and that the cap is difficult to get off (need a knife or tool).

Thanks, there are many variations on the design of the bucket, but this one is a good representation. I built one a while back and was only looking for a site that showed plans similar to the one that I built from. I’ll have to look deeper into the site I referenced as I haven’t been there much. Serendipitous.
I am not familiar with gelling fuels. Sterno is labeled as solid fuel-no liquid to spill. It is however, alcohol based which makes it a pretty clean burn.
The boxes I have on hand are not stamped with any expiration date, and I know that I have had them for at least 5 years maybe more. Just used some the other day when I got up the electric was off and I have to have a cup of coffee first thing. It worked fine.
I got my Bakers Creek Seed catalog this week. They said it is getting really hard to get seed for corn that has not been contaminated with Monsanto Genetically Modified.
I plant some corn each year and save the seeds just in case it is no longer available anywhere else. Corn fields in our area are pretty rare, but I am not sure how far that stuff can migrate.

Get the small Velveeta packs if you are planing to prep with it. The packs last very nicely on the shelves.
Beginning prepper here. This week I learned how to make a solar oven and ways to dispose of waste if the sewage system goes down. Also bought supplies of, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, clothes pins,matches, salt and sugar. Also bought a lot of wrapped hard candy and popping corn that I will store in Mylar bags with absorbers. Planning to go to the Mormon Food Pantry after the first of the year.
Really? I read SEVERAL of your posts last night on another prepper thread and didn’t notice any such shortcomings.
Must have caught them before I posted. I finally signed off because the errors were getting so frequent, my eyes were watering from squinting to catch them. LOL.
