This is Cateura, Paraguy. These kids live on a landfill. All their instruments were made from things found in the landfill. These kids are worth the few minutes spent watching the video.
I couldn’t watch the entire video. In many cultures the people who collect and ‘recycle’ the garbage have an average life span of half the general population. Or less. Too sad.
Thanks.
People can be very inventive when they are moved to do so.
Worth a bttt for sure!
I have zero musical talent, I don’t listen to music much either.. lol
Then you missed their beautiful music. These kids are wonderful...and resourceful.
Wonderful family portrait but they aren’t playing Bach. :-)
i wish FR had a like and share button! this is inspirational... tears came to my eyes...
They certainly were a surprise.
definitely not Bach.
I have no musical ability either but I do love it.
It is inspiring. They looked around and found a way........
Absolutely marvelous.
This was posted to one of the musician boards I’m on a couple days back. Lots of truly amazed people. I think the most posted comment was “I’m never gonna bitch about the quality of my gear ever again.”
Truly inspiring kids. And more-so, the people who BUILT those things to play in tune!
It is amazing. We saw garbage. They see something entirely different.
FMCDH(BITS)
The thing that got the musico types so much was the perspective of it all. And it’s exactly as you said, We saw garbage. They saw something else.
Even a regular lowly hobbyist like myself has a significant amount of cash (relatively speaking) wrapped up in our instruments/gear. Some of the more pro high end guys are well into 6 figures with their home studios. No joke.
And we ALL bitch that we ‘can’t do X’ because we ‘NEED’ a new Neve preamp or whatever. Like hell we ‘can’t’ it’s ‘want’ not ‘need’. We scoff at things these kids only dream about.
Perspective indeed.
Much longer video with more footage of individual instruments.
These kids certainly highlight having different perspectives.
That was a great story, and I LOVED the instruments (I am an amateur luthier).
However, it was VERY politically incorrect. ALL the music they played was by DEAD WHITE EUROPEAN MALES! (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven...you know, those guys.) There was nothing to celebrate diversity, or the rich indigenous heritage of these children, who are being deprived of their exposure to diversity. I am disappointed that the magnificent contributions of the GLBT, Latino, African or Native Peoples of Mother Earth were not represented!
It is troubling and of great concern, and I am deeply saddened./s
(I included the /s, just in case! :-) ))
This is nice. I will share it. Thank you. :)
Well they were probably ... ahem... “White hispanics” so the racism just flowed from their instruments like a fuge in C minor ;)
