What's up with the 2013 World Almanac? (Vanity)

I have purchased a copy of The World Almanac and Book of Facts every single year since the 1971 edition (this would have been my 43rd consecutive issue). Several years ago I switched from the cheap paperback copies to the hardcover simply because the type is a little larger and easier to read. At first I ordered them through bookstores but the past couple years I have ordered them online.

I placed my order for the hardback edition of the 2013 World Almanac from Amazon.com back on the first of August. At first they told me its mailing date would be November 30. Then they changed it to December 17 (a delay is completely normal; they never get out as soon as they think they will). But over the weekend I received an e-mail from Amazon saying it still isn't available and asking me for permission to extend the purchase period to the Fourteenth of next month. In other words, it doesn't look like Amazon is going to be able to find a hardback edition to sell this year.

Has anyone else out there had any trouble with receiving a hardbound World Almanac this year? I know there has been some trouble with Amazon's payment system, but this is completely different. It's as if they simply can't locate one, and that's very strange.

Does anyone know if the World Almanac has dropped the hardback format altogether?

I'll probably go shopping for a paperback edition now just to keep my streak going. I haven't had to settle for a paperback since the 2002 issue.

Maybe they’re waiting for 12/22 to see if its worth printing a hardcover version.

Maybe Obama seized the company and turned them green.

Let’s get with the program “presently no screen name”. How can we take you seriously? How do we know that you are not one of the Food Stamp President’s lackeys?

I used to buy the paperback versions way back in the late 60s and 70s. It seemed most of the information didn’t change from year to year.

Now with the internet I guess they are not as useful as they once were.

I stopped buying the World Almanac and Book of Facts back around 1998 or so.

There's this thing called the Internet where virtually every fact you could ever want is at your immediate beck and call.

The World Almanac is a good bathroom book, but with portable wireless devices, a paper copy isn’t even needed in there anymore(unless you have another use for the paper version).
